Here is a look at Cape Fear Academy and the players that will be suiting up this season for Head Coach Tony Martin.
(Seniors/Class of 2019):
Matt Kiatipis: 6’2″, 6’3″ wingspan, 190 lb., point/combo guard, TOUGH mentally and physically, high motor, intense, aggressive, loyal, loves to compete, plays with chip on shoulder, has that “it” factor similar to one of my former student-athletes Kimbal McKenzie/Bucknell, has leadership qualities both verbally and by example, very driven and serious minded, excellent athlete who won three state championships in track, fast and quick, explosive leaper/jumps very well, gets to the rim with ease and finishes with contact, strong handle and shot, great mid-range pull-up game, can stoke the 3, EXCELLENT defender willing to take on all challenges regardless of position, ceiling is high as he will outwork everyone, presents as an ideal Patriot / Ivy league prospect, outstanding honor roll student, from Canada, AAU played for CIA Bounce & others, very successful on the circuit, has not reclassified and missed most of last season so an under the radar STEAL recruit for the right program, all about fit
Sean O’Malley: 6’2″, 170 lb., forward, GREAT teammate, jumps very well, VERY strong student, will attend a high end academic school, would make a terrific college team manager.
(Juniors/Class of 2020):
Georges Lefebvre: 6’8″, 6’11” wingspan, 205 lb., wing forward, incredibly contagious personality, program changer in every way on and off the court, very gifted athlete, long, quick feet, very bouncy, major upside with this kid, impacts game on both ends, a willing learner, sponge, great heart, competitor, can score and stays in attack mode, finishes at the rim, will dunk on you, dunks with authority, developing in all areas/skills, loves being in the gym, wants it, SOT BLOCKER who impacts shots at the rim, rebounds out of area, becoming a strong defender on and off ball, can handle in the open court, excellent vision, sees the floor well, smoothing out what will become a very nice stoke, projects to be able to play three positions in college while grooming to be a 3, could end up recruited at a very high level, young, has not reclassified, outstanding honor roll student, from Canada, Bio Steel Future All-Canadian, MBL (Montreal Basketball League) Champion and MVP, 2 times invited to the CP3 Rising Stars, AAU plays for Brookwood Elite, experienced on the circuit, passes the eye test, administrations will love this young man, no-brainer for Ivy & Patriot, high academic schools, don’t wait on this recruit, will likely blow up over next year
Ivan Misic: 6’6″ 210 lb., 6’8″ wingspan, wing guard/forward, very committed highly skilled player, has a good frame and body who will end up filling out very nicely, excellent shooting form, shoots it well and with range, great footwork, Euro step, finishes around the basket, knows how to play, very high IQ, moves the ball and well without the ball, communicates well, does a lot of the little things, will do anything for the team to win, good awareness on and off the court, consistently boxes out, rebounds well, excellent locker room guy, capable of playing three positions in college, presents as an ideal high academic prospect yet could end up at athletic levels above, major diamond in the rough, must see this kid, outstanding student, from Canada, AAU played for a non-shoe program but will join one next summer, understated WINNER scholarship recruit
Emmanuel Bonsu: 6’2″, 190 lb., 6’5″ wingspan, combo/point guard, nicknamed “man child”, infectious personality, has a quiet toughness, great frame, a physically gifted stud, reminds some of Luguentz Dort, high motor, loves to compete, very athletic, unselfish, teammates enjoy playing with him, shoots it well, attacks basket with aggression and finishes through contact at the rim, a lock down defender capable of DEFENDING very well at any level of college basketball, upside is very high, motivated to reach top level, solid student, from Canada, Montreal basketball league champion, won league MVP, AAU plays for Brookwood Elite, played on the circuit, college ready body now who will play right away at the next level
Ford Chappell: 6’1″, 170 lb. forward, loves the game, great teammate, hustle player, good stroke, strong student
(Sophomores/Class of 2021):
Gavin Guion: 6’0″, 175 lb., 6’5″ wingspan, guard, strong with very good athleticism, has a good frame and body who will end up with a very strong build, jumps well, likes to get to rim, solid midrange, changes speeds, a very strong quality defender developing into a high level defender, getting better each year, interesting prospect as he continues to gain experience, will graduate as a 5-year varsity player, very bright student, played local NC AAU
Matthew Ezzell: 5’11”, 145 lb., 6’0″ wingspan, point guard, floor general, leadership, likes to push the pace, good ballhandler, takes good shots, high IQ, good athlete, fast, active defender, big upside as a lacrosse player, MVP student-athlete of the year in his middle school, outstanding honor roll student
(Freshmen/Class of 2022):
Jack McErlean: 6’3″, 145 lb., 6’4″ wingspan, combo shooting guard/point guard, will develop into a great PG, gym rat, has that “it” factor, confident young guy, really SHOOTS it well, willing to take the big shots, can put it on the floor and make plays, wants to get better and puts in the work, good student, has leadership abilities, coachable, this kid will be a player, mini pistol pete, played regional & local AAU in NC, will graduate a 5-year varsity player, very well-respected HS coaches already acknowledging he will be a big recruit when all is said and done
Chatham Lambiotte: 6’6″ 200 lb., 6’7″ wingspan, power forward, size 16 shoe, still growing, young developing player, good frame, will end up big & strong, athletic, runs the floor and jumps very well, has a nose for the ball, strong offensive rebounder, scores in the painted area, good student, dad was a McDonald’s All-American, AAU played for shoe sponsored & local AAU, will graduate a 5-year varsity player, once he gains experience will be an x-factor recruit
KJ Kernan: 5’10”, 165 lb., 6’0″ wingspan, combo guard, can stroke it, changes speeds well creates space, solid body, knows how to play, loves being in the gym, has a toughness and confidence about himself, outstanding honor roll student, high end academic schools stay on the lookout
Caden Kernan: 5’9″, 135 lb., 5’10” wingspan, combo guard, nice stroke, good feel for the game, will be a good player,
