2020 Orlando Christian Prep G Eric Butler talks CP25, upcoming season and more
Orlando Christian Prep graduated a talented point guard this spring in Buffalo freshman Ronaldo Segu.
The Warriors replaced him with someone who is ready to get the job done in Eric Butler.
A 6’3″, 175-pounder, Butler came down to Orlando in the spring from Alabama. He was at Smiths Station in Lee County, Alabama before and spent this summer with Team CP25.
“I played for Team CP25 this spring and summer and will be playing for them next season. It was a great experience,” Butler told Prep Hoops. “I learned a lot about the process and what is expected of me from my coaches. Taking charge and control of the game is what my coaches expected of me and by the end of the summer I felt like I was giving them what they expected.”
With back to back Class 3A state titles, Orlando Christian Prep has found success under head coach Treig Burke. Butler is very excited to play under Burke this fall.
“He (Burke) has had some great players play for him and I know that I can only get better and stronger with his guidance,” he said. “Getting to play with my teammates and build a chemistry because we are a young team is exciting for me as well.”
Butler says he trusts his shot a lot more now.
“My improvement has been my consistency in my game as far as taking shots,” he said. “In the past, I would hesitate more before taking a shot and would rather pass the ball to my teammate. I trust my shot now. I’ve always been a pass first guard, I enjoy getting my whole team involved in the game.”
Current offers on Butler’s plate are FIU and FAU. He also has generated interest from Tennessee State, Drake University, Mercer, Liberty and Old Dominion.
“Everyone has their dream schools but what is most important to me is being able to play for a school that is the best fit for me and I hope that I get that opportunity,” Butler said.
He pointed to his biggest strengths as his ability to get his teammates involved, his basketball IQ and ability to control the pace of the game.
“I continue to improve on my shot, being more aggressive to the basket and shiftier with the ball,” Butler said.
At a new look Orlando Christian Prep group, look for Butler to take full command of the backcourt. He has good instincts, reliable handles and he’s maturing into a strong all-around prospect.
