2019 : SCISA 2-A Players to Watch
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top players in the SCISA 2-A Players to Watch. This season could be the year the championship trophy finds a new home. Zion Williamson has moved on from Spartanburg Day and the Griffins have a whole new look this season. The SCISA 2-A lacks star power this season with the departure of Zion to Duke. Good chance this season there will be a new champion in this class come late February.
Mike Green could have his turn this year and coming up short a few seasons ago. Green will look to lead the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach Saints this season. Green a left-handed shooting guard has been a fixture for the Saints since the 8th grade. Green enters the season with 1,726 career points and already the all-time leading scorer in school history. Green averaged 20.8 ppg last season for the Saints. Green has received offers from Charlotte and USC-Upstate this past spring and summer.
David Muncy has already committed to North Greenville University (NCAA D2) for next season. Muncy and his teammate Adam Frank will put the Shannon Forest Christian Crusaders in place to make a trip to Sumter Civic Center next February. The Crusaders lost 3 times last season to Spartanburg Day.
Muncy and Frank form the backcourt for the Crusaders. Muncy averaged 24.8 ppg last season while also eclipsing the 1,000 career points. Muncy has scored 1,076 points entering his senior season.
Frank averaged 14.5 ppg last season for the Crusaders after transferring into the school from nearby Wade Hampton HS. Frank played this past Grassroots campaign with the South Carolina Playmakers.
Davis Guyton will look to improve on his stats from last season where he averaged 12 ppg. Guyton 6’5 connected on 37% (74-201) from behind the three point line.
Jalen Matthews is a the third cog on the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach saints roster. Matthews 6’4 has really formed his body into a football player over recent years. Matthews averaged 6.8 ppg and 4.7 rebounds last season.
Trinity-Byrnes this season has moved up to the SCISA 3-A ranks this season. The Titans fell last season in the championship game to Spartanburg Day. The Titans play in the same region with Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach.
Avern Montaque plays at Hilton Head Prep in the Lowcountry. Montaque 6’4 rangy forward likes to have the ball in his hands as much as possible. Montague played this summer with the Bluffton Bulls.
Prep Hoops could really see a showdown next February in Sumter between Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach vs Shannon Forest Christian for the SCISA 2-A State Championship.
