With that, it is always good recognize that sort of movement and highlight those players even more so as they are clearly taking the jump to improving their games and contributions for their teams.
Prep Hoops Idaho tracked talent over the summer as well as talked with those around the game to locate who was making their mark as we enter the school season and better yet, the preperation portion for the winter sports season.
There were a number of players throughout the different classes that stuck out and as a result moved up our rankings or hit our boards for the very first time. As always, with our rankings they are ever-moving and changing, but here are our latest 2019 Rankings Risers as we start the school year off.
2019 Class
Cole Alton, Boise
Alton played his grassroots ball with FLITE and established himself as arguably the top player in the state rounding out the summer season. His 17U team was coached by Vallivue’s Ryan Lundgren who surely enjoyed the benefits of having such a stud on his squad for the Spring and Summer, but even more, allowed Alton to receive that valuable experience of developing his game with Lundgren’s coaching.
A notable already in terms of 5A SIC play, Alton returns to Boise High with plenty more to prove and a chance to further cement himself as top dog in the 2019 class. A second team selection last year, Alton should slip onto first team with no problem as his numbers and impressive play making skills will be on full display in the 2018-19 season.
Jake O’Neil, Fruitland
O’Neil hit our radar firmly when he earned 3A SIC Player of the Year honors last season and helped his team win the 3A state tournament title. O’Neil is a tough and gritty guard that will look to bring his team back to the promise land yet again this season as they will look to defend their title. 3A has some excellent teams and competition across the state so the task will be difficult, but we like O’Neil and his Fruitland squad’s chances.
A teammate of O’Neil’s, Drake Stempfli is also one to watch and earned a nice boost up our rankings. A First Team 5A SIC selection, this Select player will continue to help their chances at a repeat as well.
Troy Patterson, Kuna
When it came to scoring for Kuna last season, Troy Patterson helped lead the charge. A multi-skilled guard who can light it up fast, Patterson was an Honorable Mention 5A SIC and will look to earn even higher accolades while padding out his already impressive numbers this upcoming season.
Michael Ure, Ririe
A small school prospect, but a big time player. Ure spent his Spring and Summer seasons with Utah Club Basketball Elite and polished his versatile attack while picking up some collegiate interest in the process. Ure jumped up to his highest position ever in our rankings recently and will look to remain at the top of the 2019s as we move closer to the season’s tip.
Andy Ford, Timberline
Ford was mentioned multiple times last season during our POTW awards and will look to be at it again when the season rolls around. Ford jumped up in our latest rankings and after a solid junior campaign and successful Spring and Summer season, Ford will undoubtedly be a name to follow when it comes to guard prospects in the 2019 class.
