However, with a landscape that looks quite different from last year, it is conceivable that many of the top teams will not be the same as they were last year. There has been some movement in terms of transfers and some key prospects graduating that could shift some of the power to others. Below are the Prep Hoops Way Too Early Rankings for 4A.
1. Sky View
Sky View will feature the top 4A prospect in the state, Mason Falslev Mason Falslev 6'1" | PG Sky View | 2020 State #228 Nation UT . In addition to dominating as a sophomore, Falslev demonstrated that he is capable of played well on the national level this past live period en route to earning a scholarship and committing to the University of Utah. There isn’t another prospect in 4A who can score the basketball at the level of Falslev. Thus, opposing teams will be doing all that they can to slow him down.
In addition to Falslev, the team will rely heavily on Cole Deboard. Deboard shot the basketball well from deep last year and will have a much bigger role on this years team.
2. Orem
One of the biggest questions for Orem will be in regards to Puka Nacua. The top tier football prospect is always quite a skilled basketball player as well. Assuming that he continues to play during his senior season, this team will be solid once again.
Ike Richards is another skilled prospect who will be returning for the group. While Orem lost their leading scorer from last year’s team, Richards and Nacua should be more than able to fill in that role along with other role players getting the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do.
3. Juan Diego
Juan Diego also lost a couple of quality prospects and they will be young. However, they are well-coached and talented. This group has a lot of potential.
One of the leaders for the team is Raimoana Tinirauarii. Tinirauarii possesses good spped and strength which enables him to get to wherever he needs to get to on the floor. Further, he is able to guard multiple positions.
In addition to Tinirauarii, Juan Diego will have Lawson Roe and Kemari Bailey. Roe provides the team with a knockdown shooter who is not afraid to let it fly while Bailey is a physical presence who can score the basketball well. Further, he is a good athlete. This is an athletic group that could do a lot of damage in this upcoming season.
4. Logan
Logan will bring back their top playmaker in Anthony McDade. McDade will have even more responsibility on his shoulders than he has had in the past. In addition to being the top playmaker, he will need to create for others and put them in spots where they can be successful.
It will be imperative that McDade gets contributions from others as well. Josh Jensen will be one of those guys who will carry the heavy lifting as well. He can score the basketball effectively, but his biggest asset is his ability to extend the floor due to his shooting abilities.
In order for this team to reach its optimal capacity, they will need contributions from a couple of other prospects as well.
5. Bear River
Bear River had more success than many anticipated they would have last season. The good news is that they were young and should be in prime position to be even better this upcoming season.
In fact, the future looks extremely bright for Bear River as 10 of their 12 leading scorers from last year were not seniors. They will also have the luxury of having their second leader in scoring and assists back in Mark Huber Mark Huber 6'1" | PG Bear River | 2020 State UT . Huber will be aided by a strong supporting cast with Ren Fonnesbeck Ren Fonnesbeck 6'1" | SG Bear River | 2020 State UT and the team’s leader in assists in Wyatt Roholt.
In addition to being solid this up-coming season, they could be even better going forward with Huber and Fonnesbeck being 2020 prospects.
