Top Remaining 2019s
With their grassroots careers now finished, the class of 2019 is starting to commit in droves. Northern Iowa will see a wealth of talent come in from the class; Cole Henry, James Betz, Noah Carter, Derek Krogmann and Logan Wolf have all announced their commitment to the Panthers. NAIA Morningside will have a lot of roster spots filled by Iowa’s 2019 guys; TJ Schnurr, Zach Martinek, Jace Davidson, Conner Hill and Jack Peterson have all committed. Still, though, there’s plenty of highly regarded guys on the table, below we’ll take a look at eight of the best available in the class.
Trey Hutcheson, 6’5 G/F (Linn-Mar)
After breaking though and becoming one of the state’s top prospects during his 16U summer, Hutcheson had a big junior season at Linn-Mar. And after becoming acclimated with his new grassroots team, Martin Brothers, he started to add to his offers list in late July of his 17U offseason. Right now, he’s got Truman State, Air Force, St. Cloud State, Furman and Albany offers.
Trayvon Williams, 6’3 G (Valley)
The slashing guard picked up a couple opf D1 offer after his 16U summer, reportedly UMKC and South Dakota State, but not much has materialized since. Certainly a D1-caliber athlete, Williams can get up and play above the rim better than most any guard in the state. He’ll be the main man for a Valley team that will again be a state title contender.
Noah Hart, 6’3 PG (Waukee)
Here’s a guy that all levels of programs have been taking a shot at getting; William Penn, Air Force, Truman State, Wayne State and Sioux Falls have all offered the heady guard with good size and excellent vision. That’s NAIA, Division II and Division I programs. When we last reported on Hart, he mentioned Navy, South Dakota, Drake, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, Wayne State , Rockhurst and Northwest Missouri State as schools that have been reaching out.
Dylan Jones, 6’8 F (Waukee)
Another Waukee guy, Jones is a prospect that certainly strikes us at least a Division II and potential Division I-caliber talent. He’s got two D2 offers right now, from Wayne State and Truman State. And will be a shot-blocking, offensive rebound machine at Waukee this winter. Additional D2s NW Missouri State and Central Missouri are still hot on his trail.
Keegan Murray, 6’6 G (Cedar Rapids Prairie)
One part of the very dangerous Murray twins, Keegan is currently our 22nd-ranked guy in Iowa’s 2019 class. He’s got offers right now from Truman State, Upper Iowa and St.Cloud State. His Iowa Barnstormers coach Tanner Carlson had this to say about him recently, “I’ve been coaching AAU for 10 seasons now, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone shoot it as well as Keegan.”
Evan Gauger, 6’2 G (Indianola)
Queens in North Carolina, Truman State, Central Missouri, Wayne State and Graceland have all offered the intriguing 6-foot-2 combo guard. He’s got D1 interest coming in from South Dakota State, Drake, Lehigh, UMass Lowell and the Citadel. Gauger’s recruitment really started to heat up this summer, and it doesn’t seem to be over just yet.
Japannah Kellogg, 6’6 SF (Ames)
Playing with one of the nation’s best grassroots teams, D1 Minnesota 17U, certainly paid dividends for this rangy and versatile wing. Kellogg has worked throughout his high school career to morph into a true wing player, and he’s officially made the full transition. Division I programs Cal Poly, Green Bay and NJIT all offered in July.
Aidan Vanderloo, 6′ G (Sioux City East)
As of May, the Sioux City East sharpshooter had offers from D2 program Wayne State and NAIAs Briar Cliff, Morningside and Mount Marty. He’s picked up additional offers since then, but has not reported the specific schools on his Twitter page. He mentioned D2s Emporia State, Augustana, Missouri Western State, Northern State and Truman State were all recruiting him in the spring.
