Summer Challenge: 2022 Evals
We finished the July live period with coverage of the first annual PrepHoops Summer Challenge in Deerfield over the weekend. Now we begin to dive into our evaluations of the players at the event. Here is the 2022 Prospect Evaluations!
C AJ Casey (Meanstreets 14U)
Simeon is getting the next potential star of high school basketball in Illinois with Casey. Already he is 6’8”, has plus athleticism, and a wing type skill level. It is absolutely scary how good he could be. Best play of opening night was his left handed drive that he finished with a monster dunk. Comfortable handling and finishing at the rim with both hands. Put the ball on the deck quite a bit bringing the ball up the court many times and took his man off the dribble from the high-post area. Defensively he is so active covering ground with his quickness and length. So engaged on that end of the floor for a young prospect.
SG Kam Craft (Meanstreets 14U)
With several highly touted national prospects on Meanstreets, it was Craft who led them in scoring by putting a shooting clinic from deep. The big wing hit spot up shots from all over the floor. Big time shooter that can also play in transition.
PG Jeff Brazziel (Meanstreets 14U)
Could not have been more impressed with this 2022 point guard from Milwaukee. In only his second day with Meanstreets he took over their afternoon game. Dynamic lefty lead guard that is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands. Accelerates through tight spaces. Absolutely lived in the paint all game long! Finishes very well including a powerful dunk. Streaky shooter from three, but did connect on one. Went for 20+ points in their win.
G Jaylen Drane (Meanstreets 14U)
Drane was the guy in the championship game for Meanstreets. The future Simeon combo guard is also one of the top 2022 prospects in the state. At 6’2” with a long and wiry frame he has explosive pop with the ball in his hands. Slippery weaving through traffic. Such a good layup maker early on. Works well around ball screens.
PF Jalen Washington (Meanstreets 14U)
Many people believe that this Gary (IN) native is the best prospect on the Meanstreets 14U team long term. At about 6’7” he has plus length and athleticism. The skill set is coming along nicely too being able to score around the hoop and his jumper from 15 feet out to three has a chance to be a major weapon. Timing and anticipation on the defensive end and rebounds well.
PF Roberto Avila (Meanstreets 14U)
Oak Forest is getting a good one in this power forward. He has some baby fat still on him which means he will continue to grow and once he add strength he could be scary good. Avila is very mobile on the interior being able to use both hands to score with a soft touch and can face up a little. Bright future for this big man!
