Respect the Game Tournament: impressive scorers
School is in session in Arizona, and that means quality local basketball tournaments in the area. Here are some of the scorers that stood out at the Respect the Game Tournament in Avondale this weekend.
- Otis Frazier: Powerhouse – Moore
Frazier scored from everywhere on the floor. He often took the ball from coast-to-coast off defensive rebounds, easily finding his way into the opponent’s paint and making tough lay ups look easy. He was crucial in the end of close games, too, as the team around him often looked for him to score in tough situations.
- Gregory Butler: Another Level
Butler was one of the taller players on the floor for Another Level. He did not play much inside, but was a threat to shoot from outside the arc. He could see over his defender on the perimeter, which made it difficult for others to contest him.
- James Hodge-Green: Soldiers – Sharp
Though the Soldiers lost in the semifinals to Powerhouse – Moore by just one point, Hodge-Green made a ton of clutch baskets at the end. He hit a three-pointer and converted an and-one lay up for the team’s last six points in the team’s final contest with the game on the line. Throughout the tournament, he had plenty of solid makes from all spots on the floor.
- Tyler Compton: AZ Spartans
Compton was not usually the main ball handler, but he made a lot of tough jumpers from outside in the team’s run to the tournament final. His shooting ability spaced the floor for everybody else to make contributions as well.
