Recruiting Report: Troy Boynton (2021)
In terms of his an outside touch, Troy Boynton has developed that an early age.
The 6’3″, 158-pounder heads over to Cardinal Gibbons after playing his freshman season at Westminster, capturing a Class 4A state title. He discussed the transfer.
“I think the switch to Cardinal Gibbons will really be a positive for me. I think we are competing in one of the toughest districts in the state and that is where I want to be,” Boynton said. “Coach Barta and coach Mallon are really great teachers of the game and I’ve already learned so much from them.”
The 2021 guard said his freshman season at Westminster was a good developmental year for him.
“I worked really hard. I always showed up early and stayed late. Every day I had the opportunity to compete with Dudley Blackwell, Zach Scott and Sam Griffin,” Boynton said. “We went hard at each other and it helped me develop my game. I’m comfortable going up against anyone on either end of the floor and love the challenge of great competition.”
Boynton earned his first offer from Stetson earlier this summer. He says they liked his game, told him to keep working hard at his goals.
This summer, he played with both Team Knight and Team NightRydas.
“We made it to the championship game of the Fab 48 in Las Vegas,” Boynton said. “That was a great experience. It is an honor to get to play on these teams and I really appreciate all of the time and effort that the coaches put in.”
Boynton pointed to his biggest strengths as his ability to score off the dribble, his 3-point shot and ability to finish at the rim. He says he wants to keep improving his shot as he puts up hundreds of shots every day.
Moving into a prominent scoring role at Cardinal Gibbons will give Boynton a nice boost. Westminster will miss his presence on its young team, but Cardinal Gibbons will be happy to have him. He’s getting better every time he gets on the floor and I fully expect him to take the reigns there.
