Recruiting Report: Trey Alexander (2021)
Coming up the basketball ranks Trey Alexander had a lot of expectation around his game due to his family roots. From his father Steve to his uncles down to his grandfather, the Alexander family has always been known as a talented basketball family in Oklahoma.
“I would not be in the position today without my parents, my dad, my uncles, and grandfather,” said Alexander. “The ball has been in my hands since I was a little kid.”
As the noise increased around Alexander he flourished on the court. At Heritage Hall last season Alexander was fantastic leading the Chargers to the Class 4A State Championship. Alexander showed up in the biggest moments proving his worth on the court. Oklahoma State sought out the talents of Alexander early offering him before his high school career ever began. Oklahoma decided to extend an offer of their own this past week to Alexander.
“It is just a blessing to be offered to see all of my hard work is paying off,” said Alexander. “They are two unbelievable coaches.”
Alexander is not your average sophomore on or off the court. He has a great idea of what he wants in a head coach and basketball program at the next level.
“The first thing I look at is the player and coach relationship,” said Alexander. “I want the coach to let us run up and down being able to push in transition and shoot three-pointers. I need a coach that will let me play my game.”
The Cowboys and Sooners appear to be in great shape both throwing their hats in the ring. However, if at some point North Carolina extends an offer to Alexander the two in-state powers could be in trouble.
“I have always been a North Carolina fan mostly because Michael Jordan is my favorite player,” said Alexander.
Of course, if North Carolina comes knocking on any prospects door it would be tough to turn down. Alexander is laser focused right now on hitting his goals for next season. Becoming a better leader on and off the court is the big focus Alexander is hoping to achieve. Four straight Gold Balls are achievable for Alexander. He has his sites set of State Championship number two.
Coming off a huge summer on the grassroots circuit with AET and Team Griffin Alexander is starting to make national waves. This is just the beginning for Alexander.
