Recruiting Report: Mason Zick (2019)
Six-foot-6 forward Mason Zick of Northfield scored 14 points per game as a junior and now has a strong group of college coaches in contact and a senior year that could be big.
“We have three starters coming back at Northfield including me and another varsity guy from last year,” Mason said.
“I believe we can make it to state and surprise many teams with how fast we like to play and how much chemistry we have together.”
Northfield is somewhere in that top 15 area for Class AAA coming into the year and the top contender to try and take Austin out of another return trip to state.
Zick played with Wear Out the Net this 17u season and had not only fun memories as a team, but for himself as well.
“Some things I’ve really learned in the 17U was how to really play under control at all times and how to really become a better all around player,” Mason said.
“One memory I have was when we were playing in Hopkins and one of my teammates (won’t mention any names) got posterized and we all gave him crap for it after the game.
“Also another memory I had was when we came back from losing to OSA by 20+ and then coming back to beat them by four.”
WOTN had some great wins at 17u this season and it allowed Zick to be recruited in a strong way.
“I have many colleges looking at me for basketball like Augustana, Southwest Minnesota State, Bemidji State, Minnesota Duluth, North Greenville as well as many division three schools around the state of Minnesota.
“Southwest Minnesota State and Bemidji State have reached out and talked to me the most and l’m looking to go visit Southwest soon as well as Northwestern and maybe North Greenville as well.”
