Recruiting Report: Luke Richardson (2019)
The post position has quite a bit of depth this season but there aren’t a ton of guys that are really separating themselves. One of the few this summer has been that of Lapel (IN) forward Luke Richardson.
Luke has done this by the way he plays, his physical nature and toughness. College coaches have really taken note and have kind of dubbed him as the guy that stands out in that way more than most others in the class and to them, that is important.
For post players, especially in today’s game, they build their game around more of that ability to play outside and more finesse than strength. Luke goes against that a bit and it is what is helping him standout right now.
So much so that he has a ton of interest from schools like Chicago, DePauw, Wabash, Anderson, Wittenberg, Tiffin, Bethel, and Rose-Hulman. He’s currently in the process of setting up visits to Chicago, DePauw, and Wabash for this Fall.
Academics could be at play here for the Lapel standout as he is one of the better students in the class of 2019. He’s got a long list of schools that have that characteristic and he’s acknowledged that it has helped schools like Wabash, DePauw, and Chicago standout.
Things are really just getting started for Richardson would looks like a great fit for DIII and NAIA programs as a 4/5 at the next level. He’s a guy that has the strength, frame, and toughness to be an impact player in the mid and low post. He’s also a really solid rebounding forward but skilled enough that he can play in the middle of the floor and take the ball in his hands and create faced-up. A little bit of a mismatch because of that flexibility on the interior, Luke could find tons of early success at the right program without much of a learning curve.
