Recruiting Report: Jalen Williams (2019)
Perry High School has one of the most stacked teams in the state for this upcoming season. One of the big reasons for that is 2019 PG Jalen Williams. The 6’4 prospect is lengthy and is as good of a shooter as there is in the state.
Williams has plenty of help on this year’s roster. However, his strong play will be imperative to whatever success Perry has. During the live period, Williams played with Blue Chip Nation Elite.
Jalen Williams College Interest
After playing really well with Blue Chip Nation, Williams claims he has received offers from Portland State, San Diego State, Nevada, Hofstra, UC Santa Clara, Rice, St. Mary’s, Central Arkansas, and Pacific University.
Further, he has received interest from Penn State, UC Irvine, USC, Arizona, ASU, GCU, UMass, Portland, UCLA, Michigan State, San Diego, Washington State, Chicago, and Colorado State.
At this point, Williams is making decisions in regards to where he will take his official visits. Williams noted that he is looking for a team where he “can come in and play as well as contribute to the team.” In addition, he wants to “grow as a young man and as a basketball player.” Further, he wants a good education.
Williams list of schools that he will visit will be quite intriguing. He is a highly sought after prospect due to his length and ability to shoot the basketball from deep. Further, he is far from reaching his optimal potential. He has a lot of uncoachables that have not been fully tapped. Moreover, it would not be surprising to see him get taller.
Jalen Williams Projection
Williams is a mid-major NCAA Division-I guard. His length gives him the potential to be an elite level on ball defender. Further, at this point, he is best suited as a combo guard. He has grown a lot in a short period of time. Thus, he sometimes looks like he is still waiting for his speed to catch up.
His biggest trait at this point is his ability to shoot it from deep. He can do it in a number of ways which helps. However, his ability to get into the paint will need to improve. He makes great reads with the basketball and will improve his stock the more and more he is able to get down hill and pull help side defenders.
There is no doubt in my mind that Williams will make a splash at the next level. He keeps getting better and better.
