Recruiting Report: Jack Thompson (2019)
A player is commonly judged on how far he is able to take his team each season. St. Thomas Academy guard Jack Thompson has led his team to state the last two years and is coming off a great July with the Comets.
The Comets top 17u team found a great rhythm this summer as Matt Johnson, Isaac Fink, and Jack Thompson formed a strong chemistry and won a lot of games. Along the way Thompson took his game to another level becoming a reliable top contributor.
“This 17u season I learned how to be a true point guard and how to run the offense and get everyone involved,” Jack said. “This will benefit me greatly in the winter and in the future.
“My top moment this AAU season was the entire Vegas tournament, we played very well and competed with some of the best competition in the country. We also had a great time off the court hanging with our team and experiencing Vegas.”
Thompson is like many who have enjoyed their Vegas experience as a 17u player sharing a statement that is often repeated by many.
Now it’s mid-August and time for Jack to think about the winter season, a chance to help make the Cadets a state tournament participant for the third straight year.
“For the winter season our team has two returners other than myself coming back, Noah Chamberlin and Tony Wright,’ Jack said. “We also have a lot of guys ready to fill the roles of those who’ve graduated. As a team we have the goal of making it back to the state tournament for the 3rd straight year, I think this is something we can definitely accomplish.”
What about the college level? Thompson has one of the top local academic options, one of the top NSIC teams, and one of the top MIAC teams in contact commonly.
Right now the schools that are in contact with me the most are: Southwest Minnesota State, SD School of Mines, and St. John’s,” Thompson said. “I have taken one visit to St. John’s already and have dates scheduled for SMSU and SD School of Mines for this fall.”
