Recruiting Report: Elijah Hales (2019)
One of the deeper positions this year in the class of 2019 are the shooting guards. Tall shooting guards are tough to come by in the class but 6’4 Elijah Hales meets that mold. Hales is from northern Indiana and attends Westview High School where he is able to shine. Westview is one of the best small schools in the state and Hales is a huge reason to their success. Hales is a guy who is coachable and is going everything in his power to be the best player he can be.
This summer, Hales ran with Indy Heat Red, a very competitive team who had a ton of high level players. Hales definitely showed what his game was made of with the many opportunities he had. He’s a guy who will be able to make plays with the ball in his hand, but at the next level may be better suited to play off the ball with his shooting ability off the catch. Hales makes all the right decisions that you look for in a guy with the ball in his hands a lot.
Hales has been hard at work on his game this offseason working on his shooting off the dribble and his speed up and down the court. Hales is also looking to get more explosive so that he can finish at the rim with even more consistency than he already is able to. He’s a guy that with the game on the line you want to have the ball. He’s lengthy so that he can guard multiple positions on the defensive end of the ball and create mismatches on the offensive end.
Thus far Hales has been offered by Goshen and Huntington and has visited DePauw. He is planning to visit some other high academic D3 schools as well this fall and winter. Due to his high test scores and GPA, he is planning to apply to some selective academic schools to see if he can get in to open even more doors for his future. Going into the start of his senior year, Hales wants to put his team ahead of himself and to enjoy the process. If he continues his solid play and work in the classroom, Hales could get some opportunities that he could have never expected.
