Recruiting Report: Dylan Engler (2019)
Dylan Engler is a 2019 6’4” wing from Oswego that put his complete game on display when we saw him in July at the Spartz Basketball Invite. Was consistent shooting it from beyond the arc hitting threes from the wings. Connected both off the catch and pulling up from deep. His shot was about on point as you can get. Played well in transition and showed more athletic pop than we had seen in the past including an explosive baseline take for a slam.
How was July running with Mercury Elite?
“I feel like I played bit out of position, but that was fine because I completely took that role over. For high school I run the point guard and with Mercury I played the two and three. It was different. It was a good fit tough.”
Engler talked about the biggest strengths of his game.
“I feel like my biggest strength is shooting for sure. I am a 6’4” athletic guard. I feel like if you are a shooter a lot of times you lose your athleticism, but I feel like bring that on the court. I am an underrated dribbler that handles the ball at Oswego. I feel like I have a lot of underrated skills.”
How did it go with his high school team in June?
“We got third at Morris, third at Illinois Wesleyan, and second at Illinois. We were in or close to the championship game every week. We went from four wins in the summer last year to 21 this year.”
Engler says he has heard from a few colleges.
“I got a call from Minnesota State. Benedictine and Hillsdale have texted me. Lewis has contacted.”
