Recruiting Report: Colin Kenney (2019)
Marquette Catholic has high hopes coming into the season and some of that rests on the shoulders of Colin Kenney. The 6’1 point guard is a spark plug for his team and is able to score the ball in bunches. Last year, Kenney was a huge part of Marquette Catholic’s success, and this year Kenney is going to step his game up even more to lead them to where they want to be. With the game Kenney has, anything is possible.
Kenney has offers from Flagler College, University of Mary, and University of Saint Francis. He has a little interest from Furman as well. Kenney is taking a visit to University of Mary on September 21st and 22nd. He is in talks with Furman about a possible visit but does not have a date set for that yet.
Kenney had a solid high school season last year as he averaged 21.7 points a game highlighted by a 36-point performance against Kokomo. That success bled over into AAU this summer as he ran with SYF Players. He said that during the AAU season he picked up some offers and interest and that he expanded and improved his game.
One of the biggest knocks on Kenney has been his lack of strength, he’s strong but just not quite there in terms of strength that he needs. Kenney says that that is one thing that he is really trying to improve right now as well as his vertical. Once he adds on a little more strength he will be able to finish inside at an even higher rate than before.
Kenney is a high volume scorer and can really put a team on his back and lead them. A few things that college coaches have said that they like most about his game is his leadership, toughness, and poise. For a point guard, these are all great qualities to have especially when it comes down to crunch time. Coaches also love his ability to score the ball which for a guard brings an added spark. Kenney separates himself on the court via his basketball IQ and leadership, something that Marquette Catholic and college coaches will want to see as he heads into his senior year.
