Recruiting Report: Austin Jentzen (2019)
STMA 6-6/6-7 big Austin Jentzen is one of the most improved players in Minnesota’s 2019 class from the winter through the summer. Austin has been offered by schools and has others looking close.
Jentzen joined the Minnesota Comets 17u squad and overcame an April injury to put together and excellent run of events in May, June, and July. Austin’s improvements were obvious, and it’s something he is proud of.
“I’d most definitely say some things I picked up this summer was working with my body coming off my surgery,” Austin said. “I still wasn’t as athletic as I usually was or able to do everything I would’ve but was at about 80 percent until the Vegas tourney when I was back to 100 percent.
“This was also my first year on this team and I was joining a very talented team and the best team I’ve ever played on. I figured out how to still play my game find my role especially on a team that has been playing together for a long time but fit in and did what my team needed me to.”
The brotherhood of playing Grassroots Basketball is something that most players mention as a spring/summer takeaway and Jentzen is another player that loved the travel with teammates.
“Some of my favorite memories was definitely traveling with my team,” Austin said. “I haven’t traveled that much with any other team but I had a really good time and had a lot of fun with my teammates who really brought me in even though they already knew each other and had been playing with each other for years and I’d say it was just a really good time in general.”
STMA was 15-13 a year ago and while they may have lost their top three scorers there is a lot of returning talent in blue and gold. In addition to Jentzen, Kale Hoselton, Judson Chea, and Sean Buchanan also return and have the potential to make this team even better than last year’s team two games above .500.
“This winter I’m very excited, I’m the the only starter coming back but but we have a bunch of kids that played major minuets and came on strong during the year coming up,” Austin said. “We will be able to challenge for the Mississippi 8 title and want to go to state, and we are bringing back some role bench players from last year.”
Austin has a nice group of schools that have shown interest and that are in contact.
“I have two offers as of right now from the University of Mary and Lake Region, and some schools have showed interest like St. Cloud State, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Quincy, NDSCS, and Highlands. I’m working out visits with Mary and Lake Region. I’m also looking forward to the Top 250 Expo on September 9th and the Comets Camp September 23rd.”
