Prospect Watch: Jim King (2019)
Class of 2019 forward Jim King of Troy is a strong low post performer who has worked hard to improve his perimeter skills before his senior season.
The 6’6″ King is the Trojans leading returning scorer and rebounder from a team that finished 17-10 in second place in the Gateway Athletic Conference South to a powerful Francis Howell team. He has received collegiate interest from Division II McKendree among other schools.
As a junior, King averaged 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field. He has excellent post moves around the basket with the ability to finish with both hands at the rim. He is also an explosive leaper who is capable of throwing down several dunks in traffic.
“I try to use my athleticism to my advantage,” King said. “I try to play the game strong and attack the basket hard.”
King has spent much of the summer working on his perimeter shooting to compliment his very effective low post game. During the month of June with his high school team, King displayed a much improve stroke from 3-point range, especially from the corners.
“I’ve definitely worked more on my shooting during the summer,” King said. “I’ve worked more on my game to attack more from the outside.”
King spent the summer grassroots season playing for the Gateway Basketball Club 17U team that competed on the Adidas Gauntlet Silver Circuit.
