Prospect Spotlight: Nathaniel Mueller (2021)
Last season, ADM’s dynamic young point guard Nathaniel Mueller spent the winter honing his skills with the Tigers’ freshman squad. This season, he’s making the jump to varsity point guard.
The 5-foot-7 sophomore may be on the smaller side, but he’s without a doubt one of Iowa’s most skilled and productive young prospects. And he’s starting to pair his tantalizing style of play with some hoops IQ and leadership ability.
“I think I’ve improved at controlling the tempo of the game as a point guard, and my coach at Kingdom Hoops has helped me a lot with that,” said Mueller.
“And just taking control and being a leader as a point guard, and being accountable for what happens on the floor offensively.”
During his spring and summer, Mueller played with Kingdom Hoops Elite 15U, one of the state’s best teams.
“My teammates are awesome we work hard together,” said Mueller. “It really helped because I’ve played with Payton (Sandfort) and Reid (Grant) for awhile. They’re just fun to be around, they’re positive guys, and it’s easy to work hard with them.”
As a freshman with ADM last winter, Mueller learned the game. This season, as a sophomore, he’ll showcase his dazzling ball-handling, sweet vision and precision shooting on the big stage.
“Freshman was good, our coach was really good and he really helped me a lot. And coming up this year, I’ll actually be the starting point guard, so that’ll be good,” said Mueller.
“We did a couple team camps this summer, we did Norwalk and UNI, and that was good. I was just working on being a leader and we won a lot of games at the camps; I know we went undefeated at UNI. We got some pretty good guys around me that can shoot.”
He added: “I’m hoping to come in and just lead the guys and help them know the offense and stuff like that.”
