Prospect Spotlight: Lian Lopez (2020)
2020 guard Lian Lopez will spend his junior campaign at Champagnat Catholic.
The 6’2″, 200-pounder joins a Lions squad who went 9-17 a year ago. He was previously at Hialeah Gardens.
Lopez broke down the decision to switch schools.
“I transferred to Champagnat Catholic because I just saw more opportunities for my academic and basketball career. Since I transferred, I’ve improved on my defense, being more vocal to my teammates on defense and making sure they are set,” Lopez told Prep Hoops. “I’ve also improved more on my offensive game, when to make the right pass and when to shoot the ball and when to drive.”
As a sophomore, he averaged 15.9 PPG, 4.0 RPG and 2.1 APG. Lopez reached the double-digit mark in all but three games which included a 32-point outing in a Jan. 22 win over Hialeah-Miami Lakes.
He’s aiming to improve his all-around game.
No offers or interest have come yet for the 2020 prospect, but he’s confident in his shooting ability and his ability to drive and create for his teammates.
The most impressive aspect of Lopez’s game is his willingness to absorb contact as an attacker. He can shoot well, but when he puts his head down and drives, he scores or draws a foul more often than not. Lopez has broad shoulders and is well built for an entire high school season. He will continue to get better with each game.
