Prospect Spotlight: Jaylen Drane (2022)
Future Simeon combo guard Jaylen Drane is trending as one of the top 2022 prospects in the state. At 6’2” with a long and wiry frame he has explosive pop with the ball in his hands. Slippery weaving through traffic. Such a good layup maker early on. Works well around ball screens. Potential on the defensive end with his length and quickness.
Drane had a strong showing with Meanstreets 14U to close out the July live period. He spoke with PHI about how his game is coming along.
“I have been in the gym a lot so I think my game has gotten better. My shot, dribbling, and passing.”
Playing with his new high school teammates in June was a new opportunity for him to improve.
“It was a good experience to play with older guys who are bigger and stronger than me. That way I know what I need to work on.”
He does have a familiar face next to him experiencing the same thing as the top prospect in the state AJ Casey will be joining him at Simeon. They also play with Meanstreets together.
“It is going to help a lot because we have a chemistry. It is going to help a lot and plus we have been playing with each other for a while.”
