Prospect Spotlight: Jamoni Jones (2020)
Jamoni Jones – 6’1” | PG | Greenwood Elite 2020 | East Kentwood High School
Jamoni Jones is a dynamic prospect at the point guard position with the ability to take over a game in a multitude of fashions. He can score with the best of them in the 2020 Class, he makes players around him better, he defends at a high level, and he has a non-stop motor. Jones played with Greenwood Elite this past summer and attends East Kentwood High School where he will be returning as their starting point guard.
As he game continued to progress, Jamoni focused on areas that he still knows he can improve. Jamoni Jones dominated games this summer both with the ball in his hands and off the ball. “I know I can work on my decision making off the pick and roll and bettering my shot.”
Throughout the summer, it was Jones’ ability to step up and make big shots as well as finish around the rim that helped Greenwood make it late into tournament play. Jamoni has an extremely quick first step and doesn’t hesitate to force his hand on offense. He is constantly looking for weaknesses in the defense and has the necessary skill set to take advantage.
As East Kentwood returns some of their key contributors next year, Jones recognizes the opportunity ahead with this group. “I want to get better with my teammates (East Kentwood teammates) and hopefully make a run in the playoffs.”
While his basketball IQ allows him to lead the team by example, he is also a strong leader. “My leadership and bringing the team together are two additional things that I bring to the team.” Jones has proven that he can score at an efficient mark from all three levels.
To take his game to the next level, he will need to continue to get stronger. He has quick feet and hands which help him on defense and as he adds strength to his frame, he could become an elite defender both on and off ball.
As a point guard with good court vision and a strong scoring skill set, he was a tough guard for teams all summer. Watch Jamoni Jones continue to build off his strong spring and summer campaigns as the high school season comes around in Michigan.
