Prospect Spotlight: Charles Snyder (2021)
EMPORIA, Kan. — After a big summer competing for SSA Elite 15U squad, Emporia 2021 forward Charles Snyder is gearing up for a big sophomore season for the Spartans.
Snyder brings a unique, inside-out type game to the floor. He has the ability to handle the ball on the perimeter, take an opposing big off the dribble and get to the basket, but can also get in the post and score. He has good hands and a soft touch around the basket and an emerging outside shooting touch.
He says competing for SSA Elite helped his game grow.
“I liked playing with the SSA team I played for this year because of the way we run and get going down the court off a missed or made shot the same way we play at my high school,” Snyder said.
Snyder says that he spent the summer working on getting better at the defensive end of the floor.
“I’ve never really been too big on defense, but last year as a freshman I learned that to be able to compete I’m gonna need to pride myself more on the defensive end of the court,” he says.
Snyder said his dad has been the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“He’s always there to tell me when I played terrible just as much as when I played good and still tells me what I need to do better,” Synder said.
Synder says he enjoys watching the Dallas Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki play and sees some of his own game in the long time veteran.
“I’ve always looked up to Nowitzki as a player because he can step out and hit a three as much as go back inside and make a move,” Snyder said.
