Prospect Spotlight: Bernie McGuinness (2020)

Bernie McGuinness – 6’3” | W/F | Indy Heat Red 2020 | Guerin Catholic High School

Bernie McGuinness is a true definition of a competitor and a winner. He has the innate ability to rebound amongst the trees because of his high basketball IQ and desire for winning more possessions or putting an end to an offensive possession for the other team. McGuinness puts himself into any situation or position that it takes to help his team win games. Bernie is a hard-nosed wing who played with the Indy Heat Red 16U group this summer and will be starting his junior year this fall at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville, IN.

McGuinness is coming off his sophomore campaign where his impact continued to grow. With three seniors as major contributors to the offense graduating this past spring, Bernie will have a new opportunity to showcase all of his abilities in the upcoming season. Also, with a new coach, Bernie will be able to step into a leadership role and help shape the future of the program.

Bernie has improved in all facets of his game since last season with increasing confidence. As he starts developing his ball skills and ability to attack off the wing consistently, he will be able to take his game to new heights. The next progression for McGuinness is developing his game as a slasher and playmaker with the ball in his hands.

McGuinness shoots the ball well from deep off the catch and has shown the ability to create his own shot of the dribble throughout the spring and summer. As he starts to slot himself as a wing with more guard tendencies, he will be able to improve his ball handling and court vision.

With his high basketball IQ, Bernie is a guy that always makes the right play. He is unselfish on offense, outstanding off the ball with screens and movement to create space, first on the floor for a loose ball, and a non-stop competitor. His energy and passion for the game fed his teammates and elevated their games.

Bernie has learned how to make other players better in his past few years with Guerin and the Indy Heat program which speaks on his understanding of the game and willingness to do whatever it takes to win. As the 2019 High School season tips off in Indiana, keep Bernie McGuinness on the radar to start turning some heads in the Indianapolis area.
