Prospect Intro: Mick Davin (2020)
Coming off a state championship in March, Covington Catholic is looking to reload rather than rebuild. While many of the main contributors of the title team have graduated, the Colonels have a Junior class that went undefeated as a JV team last year. Among those Juniors is guard Mick Davin. Mick describes his game as that of a great shooter, “I can dribble very well but my best strength is getting in the lane and shooting 3s. I’m very consistent with my shooting.” While Davin was thrilled to be a state champion as a sophomore, he’s already shifted his focus on to the 2018-19 season and trying to defend that state championship, “Of course last year was a good year. I’m just very excited for what this year can hold for me and my teammates. I can’t wait to compete”.
Davin had a sucessful AAU season heading into his Junior year. “I played with a couple of teams but one team was Swagger and we won Nationals. I look forward to showing everyone the strength and speed I’ve added to my game since AAU season.” Ultimately, Mick Davin is hoping to help return the Covington Catholic Colonels to Rupp Arena to compete in the Sweet Sixteen. “The ultimate goal for this year to to return to Rupp. I also want to become first team all region”. When I got to see Cov Cath at NKU’s team camp this June they were flying up and down the floor and really pushing in transition. While they may lack stars like CJ Fredrick this year, the Colonels are going to have a lot of depth and should have a good shot at repeating their trip to Rupp Arena in March.
