Prospect Intro: Kobe Brents (2020)
Kobe Brents is one of the better scorers in the 2020 class and hopes that a move to one of Kentucky’s traditional basketball powerhouses will help boost his stock with colleges and help him get to Rupp Arena in March. Following a great Sophomore season at Glasgow, Brents has moved to Bowling Green and enrolled at the defending 4th region champion Warren Central. Leaving Glasgow was hard coming off a great season for with Scotties, “Last high school season was my best season so far. I felt like my performance was great! As far as team results, we played outstanding. I’m proud of last years team and I felt that we could’ve done big things that haven’t been done in a while.” As far as the move to Warren Central, the Dragons are getting a player who can really score the ball and hopes to fill the hole left with Skyelar Potter’s graduation, “My strength is offense but what I need and want to improve on is defense.” Kobe told me. He followed with, “I was once told that college coaches don’t care if you average 20 or 30 points. They want kids that can play defense.”
Before making the transition to Warren Central, Brents played AAU with NYBA Elite out of Nashville, TN. Kobe told me, “The season was good and we improved a lot. I learned a lot during AAU, especially how to play at a faster pace. I’ll take that and try to apply that to school ball this season.” Even though Kobe switched schools, he realizes the pressure that comes with playing at Warren Central. “My goals for the upcoming high school season are to be a good teammate, a good leader and to help lead my team back to the state tournament.” Brents will team with fellow Warren Central transfer Dre Boyd (formerly of Adair County) and as many as 5 other transfers that have been rumored. If the team can figure out roles and get their chemistry together by February, it should be Warren Central and Bowling Green competing for the regional championship and a birth at the state tournament for what seems like 100 straight seasons. Warren Central and Kobe Brents are going to be fun to track in the 2018-19 season.
