Program Awards: CKY Magic
With the 2018 AAU season in the rear view mirror, we are going to dive into programs across the state looking at their teams in a variety of categories in our Program Awards! Today we examine CKY Magic!
Program MVP
Matt Cromer,South Laurel
One of the more consistent players in the Magic program, Cromer played a lot of his best basketball in the biggest games of the summer for CKY. Known for taking and making big shots for South Laurel, Matt did much of the same for the Magic, making big shots in many of the Magic’s bigger games.
Top 2019 Prospect
N/A – CKY Magic have only 3 2020 teams
Top 2020/2021 Prospect
Marques Warrick, Henry Clay
Possibly the best player in the city of Lexington this season, Warrick is long and skilled and deadly in the open floor. Marques has a ton of D1 interest at this point and is likely to end up with multiple offers by this time next year. If he can add good weight and bulk to his frame, he can be a big time college player in the near future.
Sleeper
Kaelin Drakeford, Mercer County
Drakeford is a two sport star who brings his toughness from the football field over to the hardwood. Kaelin doesn’t have any crazy statistical games but he does everything needed for his team to secure a win. It remains to be seen which sport Drakeford will play in college but he could be a good role player for some college program.
Biggest Stock Riser
Joe Meador, Franklin County
Joe is a relative unknown for a 6’8 dunking machine. He had a good season for the Cky Magic’s second team and was a revelation at the Next Up Recruits camp in June. He went from unranked to top 40 in our 2020 rankings and should keep moving up over the course of the next two seasons.
