Portland State Elite Camp Recap
Portland State Elite Camp took place at the brand new Viking Pavilion on Saturday and PrepHoops was there to take in the action. Here are some quick notes about the event in general.
The Participants
Most of the top players in the state from the Classes of 2019, 2020, and 2021 were in attendance at camp. Of note from PrepHoops Oregon rankings were were Class of 2019 #2 Aaron Deloney, #4 Isaac Lange, #5 Stevie Schlabach, #6 Ty Rankin, #7 Josh Angle, Class of 2020 #1 Micah Garrett, #3 Bryson Crockett, #5 Aidan Clark, #6 Payton Richardson, and Class of 2021 standout Ben Gregg. Class of 2019 #3 Jaden Nielsen-Skinner, a Portland State commit, most certainly would have attended but was out of town. Also there of note were some of Vancouver’s finest including Alex Schumacher (2019 Skyline) and Kaden Perry (2021 Battle Ground), and some from further away such as Zack Paulsen (2019 Curtis).
The Schedule
The camp ran for four hours, from noon to 4 pm. Participants first started out doing individual drill work and transitions drills. They then did a number of 3-on-3 games, and then after a break were split into teams and played three 30-minute scrimmages each.
The Feel
The camp was very well run and it gave all of the participants to show their strengths and give them an opportunity to work on their weaknesses and learn new things from the Portland State coaching staff. Many members of the Portland State men’s basketball team helped out with the drills. Each one of the assistants served as a coach in the 30-minute scrimmages which took place on both the Vikings new and old floors. The action in the games was fast and very competitive.
The Spectators
Spotted in attendance were Western Oregon head coach Jim Shaw, high school head coaches Marshall Cho (Lake Oswego), Michael Wolf (Westview), and Matt Gruhler (Skyline, WA), and AAU coaches James Johnson (Hoop Salem), Nelson Lomax (Hoop Salem), and Kendall White (Team Fly).
PrepHoops will have more from camp including Top Performers and some player recruiting updates over the next week so stay tuned.
