Phoenix is Rising Tournament: PHX Soldiers standouts
The Phoenix Soldiers made the semifinals in the Phoenix is Rising: Best Ever Tournament this weekend in Avondale, AZ. Here are some of the players that stood out:
JoJo Rincon did a good job for this team as the lead guard. He is a smaller player at this level, but was able to get to the right spots leading the offense to some easy buckets. He did not score as much as he normally can, but made some solid passes to open up shooters or cutters to the basket. On defense, he was quick on his feet, and came up with a few steals.
Malcom Hill made several nice cuts to the basket in all levels of this tournament, playing pretty well off the ball, as there were multiple players on the team who needed a lot of touches to be successful. He competed very hard on defense, deflecting a few passes and getting rebounds off the misses his team caused.
Kennell Sutton provided some much-needed rim protection for a team that had very little of it. He had several blocks that changed the momentum of games, and got the team into transition with good outlet passes following rebounds.
Jett Wade, per usual, preferred some jumpers that could have possibly been easier as drives to the basket, but drew some shooting fouls when he did make it there. He played incredibly fast both off and on the ball, and could be seen flying around the court no matter the score.
