On The Rise, Class of 2022
Juwan Dawes, Sacred Heart
The 6-foot-3 South Florida product has a wealth of potential with his early skill-set. He’s got a tightened handle, a nose for the rim, and a flat out crafty game that enables him to get into the nooks and crannies of defenses. Since he’s matured early, he’s very rarely played age appropriate. This has helped with his toughness and understanding of playing the game the right way.
Dawes has been dunking the ball smoothly with both hands since the seventh grade. There is a very high ceiling associated with his game. Playing against the older guys has helped him sacrifice individual numbers for team goals, allowing him to develop into a cerebral passer who can break down a defense.
Jimel Lane, Coral Reef High
The 6-foot-4 Class of 2022 prospect has elite level athleticism, length, and the type of bouncy hops that’s easily translatable to the Division-I level. He etched a name for himself this summer, scoring 17 points and then 19 points during his first two games at the AAU national showcase in Las Vegas.
Levertis Williams, Florida Lightning
Similar to Lane, Williams has the type of length and athleticism that provides a constant threat on both sides of the floor. A noted ball thief, Williams was able to convert turnovers into transition buckets as well as any player in the Class of 2022 this summer.
He’s got a high percentage shot and doesn’t struggle with his release time, unlike most in this age group. He’s been a reliable scorer at all three levels. The Miami native scores the ball at all three levels and can really get hot at the opportune time.
Mark Cueto, Benjamin High
The incoming freshman handled meaningful minutes on a tough Ball4Lyfe squad this summer very well. He was able to really apply thorough defensive pressure in the backcourt. Offensively, he showed his 3-point stroke and ability to score the ball as a 6-foot-3 off guard.
While he played primarily in the post these past few seasons, he’s been able to really get acclimated to the guard’s role. He will learn after some talented seniors at Benjamin next year, most notably the high-scoring and heavily-recruited 6-foot-5 lefty Benjamin Lubarsky.
Malik Reneau, Mater Academy
With the sudden transfer of high-motored 6-foot-5 forward Seven Ferguson (who will re-class into the Class of 2020) to Westlake Prep in Miami-Dade, the 6-foot-4 Reneau’s impact could be felt earlier than expected.
Reneau has length and showed he can knock down the outside shot during Palm Beach State camp. He still needs to adapt to the physical rigors of the varsity game and pack on muscle.
Keon Williams, Arkansas Woods Elite
The physically advanced Class of 2022 guard possesses the type of crafty game and manipulative moves to eventually be an at-will scorer on the varsity level. He’s got a natural knack for picking apart a defense. This summer, he showed an adeptness at scoring the ball on the fly and getting his shot off in quick-hit fashion.
Omar Cooper, Indiana Rise
The Class of 2022 prospect offered instant contributions as a spark off the bench for the Rise this summer. He’s proved to be a reliable supplementary scorer, with his ability to stick it from beyond the arc and also attack the rim and absorb contact.
Becoming a consistent presence on the glass enabled him to be a key role player on a talent-loaded team that made national headlines.
DeMario Williams, Arkansas Woods Elite
A strong, confrontational defender with a fluid set shot, Williams brings a lot of promise into what could be an illustrious four-year career. He’s got the build and know-how to provide an instant impact at many high level varsity programs throughout the country.
