With that said, a number of them walked away with solid performances that aided them in ensuring that at this time next year they will be training to play college basketball. Below are the top performing club teams from Utah in the Prep Hoops 17U Rankings.
1. Exum Elite
Exum Elite was extremely solid throughout both live periods in the spring and in the summer. Their strong play earns them the top spot here. While they took a step back without Rylan Jones, they regrouped and finished the summer on a high note in the FAB 48.
They gave Team Why Not EYBL all that they could handle and lost in a tight battle to the eventual champs at the FAB 48 Invitational to DC Premier UAA.
Further, this team is stacked with NCAA Division-I talent with Utah commits Jones and Matt Van Komen leading the way along with Isaac Johnson. Further, Trey Stewart, Emmanuel Andrew, and Jaxon Pollard have all earned NCAA Division-I scholarships. This is quite possibly one of the most loaded teams that Utah has had and their total body of work supported that.
2. Utah Mountain Stars
The Utah Mountain Stars were also exceptional. They won the Pangos Sweet 16 with a win over a highly talented Factory (AZ) team. Further, they were bounced from the 1st round of the invitational bracket of the FAB 48 after winning their pool with a 2-1 record.
They were led primarily by Bernardo De Silva who was remarkable throughout the live period. De Silva performed in front of a large audience and showed the basketball community that he is a mid-major prospect with a high major ceiling.
Further, Nate Hansen and Casey Brown provided the team with solid shooting and guard play. Moreover, Hayden Welling demonstrated that he could potentially be an NCAA Division-I candidate.
3. Utah Basketball Club (UBC)
The Utah Basketball Club, or UBC, comes in at 3rd after a really solid showing in the spring and summer as well. Often times, this team looked like the Trevon Allfrey and Jeremey DowDell show. These two used July to set themselves apart while performing on a team full of college level prospects that included Taylor Zwick, Collin Jeppson, Landon Brenchley, Rai Tiniaurii, and Kawika Akina.
Allfrey was a double-double nightmare for the opposition. After his strong play, Allfrey earned an offer from Alaska Anchorage. While many look at Allfrey as somewhat of a tweener, the bottom line is he can play. He has put up numbers at the highest of levels and demonstrated that he is a winner.
DowDell, on the other hand, has so far earned offers from Dixie State and Air Force. He shot the basketball extremely well for the majority of the summer and showed that he can score the basketball at a high level against elite competition. In the game against TruElite, he did that and more as he dropped 37.
