Hardwood Classic: Sacred Hoops Rama vs Boo Williams EYBL
Sacred Hoops Rama split games in the KC Hardwood Classic recently and that included a loss to Boo Williams, an EYBL team from the Nike tour. Today PHD looked at this game to who from South Dakota matched the level of competition.
The final score was Boo Williams 68 Sacred Hoops Rama 56, a match-up of future D1 players that play and travel for free during their 17u season against South Dakota players who know how to compete but of course aren’t given the same summer luxuries. What led to the loss was the inside advantage Boo Williams had as their 6-foot-9 athletes were able to produce at a big rate more and more as the clocked wound down.
So who played well for Sacred Hoops? We break it down now at Prep Hoops.
Taylor Edwards, 6-5 forward from Hill City
- One of the better big man passing games we saw this July, Taylor made the right pass most of the time which was the start. But from there he faced up and attacked with a kickout to assist, he went post to post, hit cutters, and really did a nice job passing the ball. Good feel for the game.
- Also used his size to score two early baskets including an And1 taking contact and extending to complete.
- Used his dribble against bigs a number of times for success. Early in the second half Taylor attacked, missed, but then quickly put back his own miss.
- Moments later Taylor had another putback as he continually out-worked opponents
- The rate at which Taylor out hustled the Boo Williams size led to a giant butt chewing as it became non-stop early in the second half.
- Taylor had a game high nine rebounds with 11 points and four assists. An outstanding all around effort.
Cade Ostenson, a 5-9 guard from New Castle, Wyoming
- Gave a nice boost of energy off the bench. Instantly sat and defended and ran the floor with effort
- Scored his first two buckets one actively cutting to make from five feet and then the second was another SH ball reversal into an open jumper.
Dylan Pourier, a 6-1 guard from Rapid City Douglas
- Opened the game with a transition score and then on the second possession was able to catch a reversal and beat a guy with several mid major offers to the baseline for a score. Dylan’s first step was too quick for the Boo Williams player to move with with meaning Pourier beat him to the angle.
- Stood in and took a charge that he may need a bravery medal for
- Had a textbook cut to the basket slicing to catch and finish before the defense could make a play. Great read and reaction.
- Dylan had early turnovers but overcame them to score double figures in the first half. His deep corner set-up for a catch and drain in the corner showed off his beautiful stroke.
- Boo Williams was not able to locate him in transition defense and Dylan made them pay with his leak out and finish three times in the first half
- High effort rebounder at guard, not many guards chase down boards like Dylan does
- Dylan totaled 14 points and six rebounds on 6 of 10 shooting.against future D1 players.
Ale Rama, a 6-1 guard from Red Cloud
- The ease at which Ale handled the Boo Williams ball pressure was eye opening. Simply glided throughout without an issue using behind the back change of direction as well as a a zig zag cross into a quick step to beat it and move the ball.
- Love how Ale moves the ball around the perimeter. Makes defensive rotations very hard for the opposition and how often Rama chooses the right pass over a forced attack makes him an even better player.
- Ale had a tough time completing shots early but made his first on a quick one dribble pull-up after another ball reversal (Sacred Hoops moves the ball really well).
- Rama’s transition push and his first read with that transition push were excellent
- Want to post Rama up? You better have a good feel with your back to the basket because twice Rama used his quickness to steal the ball and forced turnovers
- Rama shot 4 of 13 from the field scoring ten points with a pair of assists.
Ryan Garland, 5-10 guard from Sturgis
- A spot up shooting threat that made mid-game threes that helped Sacred Hoops have a chance.
- Hit another shot late in the game and it’s with such good lift and a pretty release. Can’t be many players that have form like Ryan has.
- His fourth three came late in the game and sparked a bit of momentum. Scored a dozen points making half of his eight three-point attempts.
