Grassroots First Person: Quad City Elite
In our “First Person Grassroots Recap” series we take a look at how the travel team season went for one our state’s programs.
We chatted with Logan Wynn from Quad City Elite about their stacked 17U team and 15U squad!
17U
Record:
28-9
Championships/Accomplishments:
NY2LA Invitational Champions, Fab 48 Invitational Bracket Final 4
Key Wins:
Brad Beal Elite (NIKE), Ray Allen Select (NY2LA), AUSI PLATINUM, Grassroots Sizzle (UA), Showtime Ballers (Adidas), BTI SELECT, Team Why Not (EYBL Peach Jam Runner Up), NY Dragons, New World
Overall Thoughts on Season:
I was very pleased with the way we competed all year and the way our team went about our business. This was by far one of our deeper classes that we have had and the guys bought into the TEAM first concept. 6 out of the 9 currently hold D1/D2 offers. The other 3 will have opportunities to play at the next level as well. The highlight of the season was making it to the Final 4 of Las Vegas at the Fab 48.
Standout Performers:
DJ Carton – Top 20 Player in the Country. What most don’t realize is how unselfish of a person DJ is. He was all about the team and his teammates having success. DJ is going to play basketball for many many years and will make money doing it!
JaMir Price – Combo guard that sometimes was in the shadows of DJ because of sharing PG duty. JaMir has a great IQ and can get himself going as well as his teammates. Very patient when he gets to the paint which usually results to making a winning play. Has recently landed some really good D2 offers with low-mid D1’s sniffing around.
Deonte Billups – Lengthy wing that showed his ability to slash and guard multiple positions all summer. A year ago was not known for his ability to defend and rebound. Deonte has shown all summer that he is capable of being an impact player at a high level. He is capable of getting hot and dropping 30 on a team any given game.
15U
Record:
26- 7
Overall Thoughts on Season.
The 15U Quad City Elite finished the 2018 season with two tournament championships, two runner up finishes and a 26 – 7 overall record. The team had a strong start to the spring winning the King of Rock Championship and the NY2LA’s Spring Extravaganza. The July highlight was a runner up finish in the NY2LA Next Level Invitational that saw the team real off four straight wins to get to the championship game.
The backcourt trio of Eric Price, Jayden Houston and Jordan Rice led the team in scoring. Romeo Metcalf was an inside presence all season on the boards and with his ability to score. Logan O’brien, Dayne Hodge, Tre Jordan and Oliver Bakeris were consistent contributors all season long while 6’-7 Max Wedding held down the middle as a dominant shot blocker.
Standout Performers:
Eric Price had a great year with the program. Lead the team in scoring and showed great leadership on and off the floor for this team. He’s a strong, versatile 2 who can score from outside and going to the rim.
Jordan Rice – Special up and coming PG that is lighting fast. Has an extremely high IQ for his age. Shoots the ball well behind the 3pt line and has a really good floater at the rim. He can get all over the ball on defense and create problems for the other teams PG.
Jayden Houston is another up and coming wing for the team. He’s very good when he’s on. He’s good around the rim, long and active.
