Five guards to know for Prep Hoops 250 – Class of 2019
With only a bit under two weeks remaining before the much-anticipated Prep Hoops 250 event on September 9th, we prepare you with a few players to target at the event. With the event hosting some of the best players Colorado has to offer it could be a bit tricky keeping up with players so I give you the top guards to watch out of the 2019 class.
Jodaun Dotson – Rangeview
Jodaun is a very confident guard that really does it all. He gets to the rim as good as any player in the state and has the ability to finish with either hand. Has a signature floater that opens up the defense as he is above average at breaking the defender down with a move that frees himself up. He’s a player that excels in the pick and roll as he will either finish at the rim where he is at his best or hit the rolling player for an open basket. He is also one of the state’s best perimeter defenders as he plays the passing lane well. Jodaun is a natural leader and fierce competitor that is deadly in the open court but can also play off ball with a pretty good jump shot as well. Look for him to turn heads at the event.
Seth Fuqua – Vanguard
Not many players in the state have a resume quite like Seth’ and it’s only going to get better as he will have one of the most anticipated senior seasons in the state. Seth is heading into his season averaging 24.7 points a game as he has been a starter since his freshman season. He is a pure shooter that will compliment a pass first point guard well at the next level but has shown the ability to also put it on the floor and is one of the best shooters off the dribble as well. His first step is quick as he beats most defenders with his left hand and he either finishes at the rim or stops for a jump-shot. He’s one of my favorite players in the state and it will be exciting to see him against some of the state’s best yet again before season.
Davon Walker – Grandview
Davon is one of the best pure point guards in the state. His ability to break down a defender off the dribble to make the smart play is what separates him from most guards as he can completely change the game once he penetrates the defense. He controls the pace and understands when to push it and knows where his guys will be due to his court vision. He completely runs the offense and is a capable shooter that can either get to the rim or stop for his signature pull-up off the dribble.
Joshua Rogers – Arvada West
Joshua is an under the radar player who put up big numbers and led a loaded team last year. At 16.9 points and four rebounds a game while also leading the team in steals we could see why Joshua is an intriguing prospect that Prep Hoops Colorado felt like we had to invite to the event. He’s a player that gets it done in a variety of ways but he is a catch and shoot specialist. He has confidence in each shot he takes which shows the time and commitment he takes to perfect his craft as it doesn’t matter if its off the dribble, catch and shoot or having to create his own shot he seems to make big plays. His playmaking ability is what makes him a great player that will surely be on display for the event that will surely carry on for the upcoming season.
Isaiah Robinson – Palmer
Isaiah is a player that we didn’t hear too much about last year as his team didn’t have the year that they expected to have, but he did have a relatively productive season. In his junior year he put up 14.2 points and 3.1 rebounds a game. He also was effective on the defensive end as he had over a steal a game and will head into the event as a player that’s ready to prove that he belongs in the conversation. Robinson has good size and can score in a variety of ways. He’s a player that gets to the rim but is a capable shooter that is showing progression. He’s a confident player that’s willing to take the big shot and is a shot creator which I expect to be a major standout in the event and one that gets on a few school’s radars.
