Last week, one of Northern Virginia’s exciting prospects, Josh Oduro, made the decision to commit to George Mason University for the next chapter of his basketball career. He will be staying close to home by attending the Fairfax campus.
Oduro received scholarship offers from several programs and made it a point to make as many visits possible to find the right fit, but when it came down to it, George Mason made the most sense.
“When I first started out in my high school career, the biggest thing I was emphasizing was going to see as many campuses as possible,” Oduro said. “I got to see a lot of different campuses throughout my whole high school time period, and I think I was able to see 30-40 campuses in order for me to understand what I like.
“Based off of that, I really liked George Mason’s campus and I really liked Coach Paulsen and his staff.”
Bucknell University, Loyola University-Maryland, Mount St. Mary’s University, Siena College and Liberty University were the other five schools that were finalists for Oduro.

The 6-foot-8 forward is known for his explosiveness and his ability to battle on the boards. Oduro has a prominent presence in the paint and makes himself known with his stellar interior defense.
However, like all great up-and-coming players, Oduro recognizes that there are always areas for him to improve upon. For Oduro, he’s looking to improve his athleticism and his strength before kicking off his senior campaign.
“I’ve been doing a lot of skill development,” Oduro said. “Working out with my trainer about two times a day, but I think the biggest thing I’m working on is my body and athleticism.
“I’m trying to work on my conditioning, my strength and trying to improve in every single area. I feel like the area I’ve needed the most improvement on is my strength and conditioning.”
Although his recruiting process has come to an end, Oduro will still be one of the players to keep an eye out for this winter.
