Best One-Two Punch (SD)
August means the AAU season is over and school is starting up again. Today PHD will go over some of the best one-two punches leading up to this upcoming season.
Trey Christensen & Camden Bialas Parker
These two flew under the radar until the end of the season where they took down some tough teams to make it to the Round of 16. They will try to get past the loss in the Round of 16 last season. Camden Bialas had a monster summer season with the SD Attack playing with players like Sawyer Schultz, Noah Freidel, and Mitchell Goodbary. Christensen has been working hard in the gym during the summer with open gyms and team camps. A few years ago they were in Class B so it’s taken the Pheasants a couple years to get used to the tempo, but this year might be the year.
Justin Hohn & Noah Freidel Tea Area
These two have won a state championship two years ago and placed second last year. They both have just received Divison I offers from out of state before their senior season started. Hohn and Freidel both had monster years for their respective AAU teams, Freidel with SD Attack and Hohn with the Pentagon Schoolers. Freidel recently received an offer from Wright State coached by former Jackrabbit coach Scott Nagy, while Hohn received one from UC Irvine in California. With both Hohn and Freidel back for one more go around it’ll be tough for teams that play the Titans this next season.
Charlie Cox & Paul Bruns Dakota Valley
Dakota Valley made it to the state tournament this past season with Jack McCabe leading the way, but not too far behind were Charlie Cox and Paul Bruns as solid playmakers. Cox and Bruns both averaged just over 11 a game last season and are poised to become better this next season. The first game of the year they play Tea Area who have most of their team back from the past couple years. Bruns was only a freshman this past season and will only go up from here, don’t be surprised if they are top five this year.
Mitchell Goodbary & Gavin Schipper Sioux Falls Christian
Sioux Falls Christian had a regular season to remember last year as they went undefeated. Only to be upset by Tea Area in the semifinals at state. They lose a good chunk, but also return Schipper and Goodbary along with key role players off the bench. Goodbary has been playing against high-level players this summer with the SD Attack, he is a force down low on the block. Schipper has also had a great summer playing alongside Goodbary with the SD Attack. Playing alongside all the teammates as well as playing against nationally ranked players across the country will benefit the two going in the high school season.
