2021 West Oaks G JJ Harris discusses AAU ball, recruitment and more
This past season JJ Harris established himself at West Oaks.
The 2021 guard says he learned a lot from the older guards Tyrell Jones, PJ Person and Tyrieke Blakeney, guys he calls tough as nails.
“Those guys got me a lot tougher than I was,” Harris told Prep Hoops. “They all would go at me in practice but at the end of the day, they would always encourage me that I was the top guard in my class. I felt like my competitive nature got a lot tougher. Specifically not to be scared to take on any challenge and just going at any player that stood in front me.”
Currently, the 6’3″, 175-pounder holds offers from FGCU, Stetson and Arkansas Little Rock.
He’s played for Showtime Ballers for the last four years. He says the summer went well despite battling a nagging ankle injury. Harris enjoys travel ball, something he calls the “show.”
Harris thanks his parents for getting him to this point his life and career. Also, coach Diana [Neal] and Kenny [Gillion] to help get better each and every day.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Harris pointed to his ability to get anywhere on the court with the ball, finish at the rim with or without contact. He says he wants to get better at his mid-range jumper.
A personable kid and true hard worker, Harris is a tough defender who prides himself on that end of the floor. His offensive game is good down low but as he alluded to, his shooting can improve with more consistency. Harris has plenty of upside and with more playing time this fall, I expect him to mature a ton.
