2021 Point Guards: Most To Prove (Part 1)
With the 2018-19 season quickly approaching, there are endless prospects out to show they can play with the big boys at the next level.
Last week, I broke down 10 junior point guards (Part 1 and Part 2) who must prove their worth this fall. The week prior, I focused on 10 senior point guards (Part 1 and Part 2).
Here’s a look at some sophomore point guards who will be looking to do just that here this season.
Dallan “Deebo” Coleman (West Nassau)
In the very first 2021 Prep Hoops Florida rankings, Deebo Coleman comes in at No. 3 overall. He is No. 24 in the country in the ESPN Top 25. Offers from UF, UNF and Iowa State came through this summer for the 6’4″ guard. He has a burst and seasoned attacking ability. Quiet off the court, Coleman is a rising athlete who never backs down from a challenge.
Wesley Cardet (Northeast)
At 6’5″, Wesley Cardet is a jumbo point guard down near Ft. Lauderdale. He plays with confidence and leadership, something that will go a long way in his progress. UF, Dayton, FIU, USF and St. Louis represent his offers currently. Cardet ranks No. 2 overall in the 2021 Prep Hoops Florida rankings.

Jameon “JJ” Harris (West Oaks)
Over at West Oaks, the Flame are loaded with talented and high scoring guards. That is usual for the SIAA squad. 2021 guard Jameon Harris represents one of the bigger point guards on the squad. The 6’4″ guard was sprinkled into the lineup at times a year ago but is surging now and attacking more than ever. No. 11 in his class for Florida, Harris holds offers from FGCU, Stetson and Arkansas Little Rock.
Jarveil Gainey (Trinity Catholic)
A 6’1″ guard, Jarveil Gainey represents an athlete who has both an outside shot and a keen ability to dish it out. Gainey earned an offer from Bethune Cookman this summer. The sophomore is crucial to Trinity Catholic’s success, a team that finished as the state runner-up in Class 5A behind University. Gainey ranks No. 37 overall in the 2021 rankings.
Caleb Jones (Dunbar)
The move from Lehigh to Dunbar for Caleb Jones certainly shakes things up in Southwest Florida. The 6’2″ guard has played with pure scoring ability for quite a while now. At a new look Dunbar squad, he’ll be able to run the show around a group of athletes. Jones is in a good situation to showcase his talents and boost his stock. He’s currently No. 42 in the 2021 rankings.
