2020 Point Guards: Most To Prove (Part 1)
With the 2018-19 season quickly approaching, there are endless prospects out to show they can play with the big boys at the next level.
Last week, I broke down 10 rising senior point guards (Part 1 and Part 2) who must prove their worth this fall.
Here’s a look at some rising junior point guards who will be looking to do just that here this season.
On a guard-heavy West Oaks squad, Selton Miguel won’t be carrying the brunt of the load each and every game. However, the 6’4″ guard will need to score and drive for his team to succeed in the reloaded SIAA this fall. He is crafty near the rim and a determined finisher. Miguel holds offers from Old Dominion, Arkansas State, FIU and Tennessee Tech currently. He is No. 16 overall in the 2020 Florida rankings.
A mid-range look is easy to come by for Brandon Garcia, who seems to create openings for himself and his teammates quite often. UNF represents the lone offer for the 6’1″ guard who is No. 30th in the 2020 Florida rankings. Garcia is a leader by example and has a tough mindset on both ends of the floor.
Perhaps one of the smoothest and bigger point guards in the state, Michael Eads can flat out get it done. The Edgewater junior quietly dishes out superb passes and when he wants to get points for himself, he can turn it up. At 6’5″, Eads is starting to become a coveted man in Florida as he holds offers from FIU, FAU and UNF. He ranks No. 19 overall in the 2020 rankings.
A true leader and point scorer for St. Pete Canterbury, Rivers Lenholt gives you everything he can on the court. At 6’0″, he’s not overly strong or athletic, but his outside shot is impressive and his competence as an attacker and passer helps his stock tremendously. Lenholt is looking to convince more colleges to start recruiting him more seriously. He is No. 42 in the 2020 Florida rankings.
Eric Butler (Orlando Christian Prep)
Being strong and authoritative are two key traits for Eric Butler. The junior guard came down to Orlando Christian Prep from Alabama. He has offers from FIU and FAU, both earned this summer while playing for Team Parsons 16U. Butler takes chances at times, but when he slows it all down, he’s a nice all-around piece. He comes in at No. 49 overall in the Florida rankings.
