2020 G Roger McFarlane talks move to University, recruitment and more
Florida just keeps getting top talent for high school hoops.
2020 guard Roger McFarlane returned to a place that he said was where his heart is. The 6’4″, 195-pounder transferred from Tennessee Raleigh-Egypt to University School this week.
Originally from Ft. Lauderdale, this move brings McFarlane back home to his family. He says coming to University will help him better his success academically and athletically along with the opportunities that come with playing at the national level school.
He broke down his sophomore campaign in Memphis, Tennessee.
“My sophomore season was great. I improved on a lot especially my leadership skills,” McFarlane told Prep Hoops. “I saw a lot of improvements, which included making my teammates look better by dishing the ball to them and making the right plays.”
McFarlane has spent the last two years playing on the UAA Circuit for Team Thad.
“It went great this past season,” he said. “I was one of the leading scorers and we were a top team competing for the UAA championship in Las Vegas.”
He earned his first offer from Tennessee Tech this summer. McFarlane has also drawn interest from Memphis, Alabama Birmingham, Tulane and Columbia.
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to getting his teammates involved and pure scoring as an all-around player. He says he wants to improve his shot and just keep being consistent with his jumper.
University gets a good one in McFarlane who will help make up for the losses of Trey Doomes (West Virginia) and Dru Drinnon (New Mexico), two 2018 graduates. He joins the No. 1 ranked senior Vernon Carey Jr. and the No. 1 ranked junior Scottie Barnes. Also, the Sharks earned 2020 forward Jace Howard (No. 22 ranked), 2020 guard David Perez-Miralles (No. 33 ranked) and 2022 guard Jett Howard via transfer.
The sky is the limit for McFarlane with his new squad down in Ft. Lauderdale.
