2019 Point Guards: Most to Prove (Part 2)
With the 2018-19 season quickly approaching, there are endless prospects out to show they can play with the big boys at the next level.
This summer served as a nice outlet for current high school players to prove their worth. Here’s a look at some more rising senior point guards who will be looking to do just that this fall.
ICYMI: Part 1
Kolton Mitchell (Victory Rock)
This has been a very productive few months for Kolton Mitchell. The 6’2″ rising senior guard performed at a high level as the point man for the Florida Sons, a team made up of mostly players from his high school Victory Rock. Mitchell is a passive kid, but when he is aggressive on the floor and goes downhill, he is hard to contain.
Dante Love (Windermere)
The younger brother of Mercer freshman Daniel Love, Dante is carving out his own path. He really impressed me in spurts with Team MOAM this summer, a program that always plays sound team basketball. The 6’1″ Love has transferred from Dr. Phillips to Windermere for his senior year. He’s a nice shooter, passer and energy player.
Christian De Leon (Hillsborough)
Known for his streetball like handles, you’d think that Christian De Leon belongs on the blacktop in New York during the summer. De Leon has so much speed in his legs and strength in his upper body for a 5’10” guard. Headed into his senior season, the Hillsborough point man is always playing with a chip on his shoulder. Expect no different this fall.
Alec Rodriguez (Belen Jesuit)
When it comes to scoring and making the most of each and every possession, that is what Alec Rodriguez is all about. The 6′ Belen Jesuit guard is a locker room leader and a chief on the court. He’s simply too skilled to be ignored by college programs any longer as he wraps up his high school career.
Elijah Howell (Wiregrass Ranch)
Wiregrass Ranch is built around Elijah Howell. The 6′ guard was the man as a junior and expect his grit and determination to show even more this fall. Howell likes to weave by defenders, create his own openings on jumpers and get his teammates involved with high IQ dishes.
