WCE Elite 100: 2020 ASG Standouts
Claremont, Ca. — The West Coast Elite “Elite 100” camp name was a bit misleading. Ryan Silver, the king of getting basketball bodies through the door, had upwards of 500 players participating in the camp two-and-a-half day camp.
We were in attendance Saturday morning and afternoon and all day Sunday for the all-star games. Here are the top performers from the class of 2020 all-star game:
Monty Bowser, Bishop O’Dowd
Bowser was most impressive attacking the basket in transition. The 6-foot-6 forward is a long and rangy slasher who covers plenty of ground with limited dribbles. Add in the fact that he’s quick off the floor with his first and second jumps and can finish through and over length, and you have quite the difficult cover on the break.
Luke Haupt, St. Augustine
Haupt, despite missing three off-hand dunk attempts, had his high IQ game on display. The 6-foot-5 son of a coach has a point forward type of game. He’s a capable ball handler, precision passer and willing to get his teammates involved. Haupt had tons of good reads in transition and practices every pass in the book.
Malachi Jones, Santa Monica
6-foot-10 Santa Clara High center Christian Oliver showed more determination scoring in the paint in the WCE Elite 100 class of 2020 all-star game.Jones was hitting 3-pointers with consistency both off the catch and off the bounce. The 6-foot-4 SaMoHi product was comfortable with the free-flowing, up-and-down pace of the game, pulling up in rhythm on the break or slashing into the paint for floater finishes.
Carter Mahaney, Campolindo
Mahaney is a tough-minded point guard who embodies the position in its most traditional sense. The 6-foot-2 junior to be is solid all the way around and thrived when getting into the paint and creating for his teammates or craftily finishing through contact. Mahaney locked down on the defensive end of the floor, as well, which is something you don’t always see in an all-star game setting.
Trevon Martin, Silverado (NV)
The main note I had down for Martin was “scorer.” The 6-foot-5 wing put the ball through the net in a every way imaginable: deep 3-pointers, transition drives and finishes, half-court slash buckets and off of back door baseline cuts.
Christian Oliver, Santa Clara
Prep Hoops SoCal has been monitoring Oliver for the last couple of months and his performance Sunday was the most impressive we’ve seen. The 6-foot-10 forward/center sometimes settles for a lot of face-up 3-point shots, and while he has the ability to knock some of those down, his most impressive play of the day was a dive to the front of the rim off of a screen-roll and one-handed dunk in traffic.
