Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2019 guards and wings from last weekend’s UA PTN Select Super 16 in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Chauncey Hughes 6’0″ SEMO Elite

The energetic combo guard from Cape Girardeau Central led SEMO Elite to the 17U semifinals. He’s quick and aggressive and was always looking to attack the rim off the dribble. He was very difficult to keep out of the lane throughout the weekend. He finished well at the rim and made his share of pull up jumpers and transition layups.

Kinyon Hodges 6’2″ SEMO Elite

The athletic wing player from Cape Girardeau Central was instrumental in his team getting to the 17U semifinals. He plays much bigger than his actual size with his explosive leaping ability, as exhibited by some exciting put-back dunks in transition. He was also very good at breaking down defenders and getting to the rim for finishes.

Derez Tipler 6’0″ SEMO Select

A physical point guard from East Prairie who will challenge anyone at any time. He has good ball toughness where he is strong to knock off the dribble when he is trying to get to the basket. He will also step up and knock down a 3-pointer off the dribble. He is also a very solid on-ball defender. He will be a four-year starter at East Prairie.

Evan Aslesen 6’1″ Arsenal Hoops

A solid shooting guard from DeSmet who has been playing well since coming off of a knee injury that hindered him throughout his junior season. He is an excellent 3-point shooter who can get it off the catch or moving off screens and in transition. He is also a good ball handler with a high basketball IQ.

Hayden Thomas 6’2″ SI Select

A very nice shooting guard from Twin Rivers who helped SI Select to the 17U championship. He is very skilled and well schooled in the fundamentals of the game. He doesn’t waste dribbles and does everything with a purpose. He can shoot the 3-pointer and he possesses a fine pull up mid range jumper. He makes excellent use of ball fakes as a passer and dribbler.

Johnnie Brown 6’1″ SEMO Select

A big bodied combo guard from New Madrid Central with excellent athleticism and the versatility to play any spot on the perimeter. When he gets out in the open, he can have some explosive finishes at the rim with a few dunks. He does a good job of keeping defenders at bay with his body and he can attack the rim well.
