Top Performers: Prime Event Boys National Showcase (Day 3)
The Prime Event Boys National Showcase kept on rolling on Friday at the Orange County Convention Center.
Here is a glimpse at the best standouts from the day.
ICYMI: Day 1
Layndon Newton (Lake Howell/Orlando Orangemen)
A 6’4″ 2020 guard, Layndon Newton was pacing the floor well on Friday. The Lake Howell athlete can push the tempo, get inside on his own and is able to finish with both hands. His offensive game isn’t nearly as polished as he would likely want it to be, but he has nice upside.
Matthew Jones (Georgia Academy of Richmond/Game Elite)
One of the youngest core defenders that opened eyes this week was Matthew Jones. A 2021 big man from Academy of Richmond, Jones uses every inch of his 6’6″ frame to swat jumpers and grab boards. He’s able to weave by guys with his downhill speed as well offensively.
Earnest Ross (Sante Fe/Thunderstruck)
At 6’8″, it is hard to not like the mature game that Earnest Ross has. The 2020 Sante Fe forward already has a nice jumper to work with alongside core defensive ability and endless energy. Look for Ross to have a breakout sophomore campaign.
Jacob Crews (Superior Collegiate/Thunderstruck)
Just recently, Jacob Crews announced his move to Superior Collegiate. The 6’7″ 2020 forward is skinny but very reliable as a defender and shot-blocker. His best attribute comes as an outside shooter as he was burying 3’s more often than not on Friday.
Braxton Bartlett (Oldsmar Christian/SEBA)
18 of Braxton Bartlett’s 20 points against Upward Stars came from downtown. The 6’5″ 2019 Oldsmar Christian guard caught fire at the 3-point line. When Bartlett is hot he’s hard to contain. Add in the fact that he’s always dishing out pinpoint passes and fighting for boards and you can always see the hustle with him.
Christian Wright (Georgia Milton/Thunderstruck)
A 2020 guard, Christian Wright is carving a path right now. The 6’2″ Milton athlete is a smart shot taker, finesse attacker and a leader on both ends of the floor. Wright rarely comes out of the game and his stamina is as good as anyone.
