Top Glue Guys from the Summer Challenge
The Summer Challenge in Chicago finished up on Sunday.”Glue Guys” is a term most know, but for those who are unfamiler simply means players who do the little things that get overlooked most of the time. Get a glance at the players who may not have scored a ton, however, were very impactful for their teams.
Cade Meyer 2021 Wisconsin Academy Post
Meyer is a 6’8 young Post with a great build. The raw talent is clearly there in Meyer and is slowly shining through each game. Playing up on the 17U circuit this weekend, Meyer did not seem a bit out of place. He brought great rebounding to the court with intensity on defense. Not to mention he scored the ball extremely consistently inside when given opportunities.
Jason Bergstrom 2020 Wolverines Wing
At 6’5 Bergstrom with his lanky build can play the four or the three spot. The long frame of his allows him to be impactful on defense. He was one of the better rebounders at the event for the Wolverines. The hustle and heart he showed off were very evident. Bergstrom also shot the ball well from behind the arc.
Connor McCance 2020 Breakaway Basketball Post
McCance was the glue to Breakaway 16U and played a great part in their deep run in the tournament. He battles constantly on the block for great position, rebounds, and tough scores inside. He did not have the best numbers each game but did have battle wounds and lots of positive plays that don’t always show up in the scoresheet. At 6’8 he is going to make a nice small college big man.
Simon Weeren 2020 Nova Cavaliers Point Guard
Weeren brought gritty toughness to the floor for the Nova Cavaliers. He brought hit hard hat playing tough defense, hustling for loose balls, and making the right plays. Weeren is a smart player that also drove the ball and scored it well.
Austin Andrews 2020 D1 Minnesota Forward
On a very talented D1 Minnesota 16U squad, Andrews is the guy that does not get enough notoriety. He hustles, rebounds, defends, can score, and pretty much will do anything his team needs him to do to win. He is the definition of a “Glue Guy” for D1 Minnesota.
Charles Hoiberg 2021 Breakaway Basketball Point Guard
Hoiberg was great this weekend doing a little bit of everything for Breakaway Basketball. He makes the “Glue Guys” list because of the heart and hustle he displayed every game out on the court. He works his tail off to run down loose balls. Hoiberg is also a sharpshooter from the outside. The wiliness of Hoiberg to play tough defense adds to his intrigue.
Luke Appel 2018 Iowa Dynasty Forward
Appel was everywhere on the court. The constant movement on the court from Appel is exhausting to watch. He makes plays left and right with the ball in his hands. Appel is going to make a good small college player at the four or even at the five as he has the size to command the paint at 6’7.
