Summer Jam: 2020 Evals Pt 2
PrepHoopsIllinois covered NY2LA Sports Summer Jam all five days last week at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin. Here we dive into our scouting reports from the events in 2020 Evaluations: Part 2!
SG DeAndre Hagan (Chicago Lockdown 16U)
This Brother Rice 2020 wing had the best game we have seen out of him in his career on Friday afternoon. The angular wing had it all working. Hagan is athletic and strong enough to be a factor on the boards getting second chance points. Finishes through contact well on drives. He has improved his perimeter shot some which was shown as he went for 20+ points.
PF Ryan Isaacson (Chicago Lockdown 16U)
Isaacson is a very intriguing four man in the 2020 class. The Hinsdale Central 6’7” forward has a lot of mobility to his game. Runs the floor very well and is a good athlete. Pick and pop ability as he shoots it well off the catch. Came away impressed with how he high pointed rebounds in traffic and blocked shots with both hands.
SG Nichols Smoldt (Chicago Lockdown 16U)
Smoldt is a shooting guard from Plainfield East that at 6’2” has some projectability where he still might grow several more inches. He is at his best shooting it from three off the catch.
SF Albert Jones (Chicago Lockdown 16U)
Jones is a 6’3” forward from Richards that almost served as Lockdown’s power forward. He was a beast rebounding the basketball and getting put backs. Efficient scoring down low. Thick legs and will not grow much more so not overly projectable long term.
SG Jaden Henderson (Chicago Lockdown 16U)
Henderson has good size on the perimeter at 6’4”. He can play both inside and outside. Was effective taking his man down into the post.
PF Romelle Howard (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
Howard is a big and physical four man that is so powerful inside. The Lincoln Park post is a plus rebounder that is quick to the glass. Has a chance to be a plus rebounder at the college level because of his physical tools and toughness. In a blowout win he made quite a few spectacular dunks in transition and even handled it some.
C Martice Mitchell (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
This Bloom 6’9” center displayed his high flying with a dunk party in the game we saw. Regularly played above the rim with rim rattling jams. Even had a two handed rock the cradle that was very impressive. His college potential comes with his rim running and protecting the rim.
SF Bryce Hall (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
This Simeon 2020 wing had the best showing we have seen out of him all spring or summer. Played with a lot more confidence in his game and it showed in his production. Consistently knocked down jump shots from beyond the arc. Looked to have a much different mentality than we have seen in the past.
SG Dante Maddox (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
It wasn’t a huge scoring weekend for the top 15 standout from Bloom, but he did show more ability to run the show. With the usual Fire point guard on the 16U level playing on another team it gave Maddox more of an opportunity to play with the ball in his hands. Still believe he is more of a natural off guard, but showed better feel especially in the full court game.
F Isaiah Burrell (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
Burrell is very similar to his two older brothers. High energy four man that runs the floor, plays above the rim, and rebounds well on the offensive glass. Jumper from mid-range went down a couple times.
SF Demarius Splunge (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
Splunge has a lot of physical tools that you have to like, but the production wasn’t there for Orr rising junior. The last two games I saw Splunge play he played with a lot better motor than I had seen in the past going hard running the floor and handling it from coast to coast. Was a bit wild on some drives turning it over, but got to the line at a nice clip.
SF Jabari Chiphe (Made Men 16U)
Chiphe is one of the more underrated prospects in the state. The Walter Payton wing has good size and game to match. Explosive first step off the bounce which he showed off in the second half of their game against Meanstreets. Also a sound pull up jump shooter especially from mid-range. Elevation off the floor and text book mechanics.
PG Michael Osborne (Made Men 16U)
Osborne is a point guard from Proviso East that does a nice job of running the show at the point. He finds his spots to score as he isn’t a ball dominant lead guard. Osborne connected on a pull up three and a couple scoop shots.
SF Paul Zilinskas (Made Men 16U)
Big fan of this Richards small forward. He is a big time perimeter marksman that drills threes from beyond the arc and with one dribble pull ups inside the arc.
PF Ron Thaci (Made Men 16U)
Thaci is the ultimate glue guy for Made Men. The 6’4” undersized post from Jones College Prep is a tough offensive rebounder that gets put backs on second chance opportunities. Efficient down low with most of his buckets coming on junk points.
PG Marcus Watson (All-In Athletics Williams 16U)
Watson made the move over to AIA Williams this week and the Morgan Park top 10 2020 prospect is still up to his old tricks. Defense and speed are the biggest assets of his game. Watson regularly picked the pockets of defenders and took them the other way leading to points. Explosive speed in the open floor!
SF Kyndall Davis (All-In Athletics Williams 16U)
This 6’5” wing has helped his stock over the last two weeks. Big and physically built small forward that slashes powerfully and rebounded extremely well.
PG Joel Watts (All-In Athletics Williams 16U)
Watts is a small point guard that pushes the pace with his speed in the open floor. Got several steals taking them the other way for layups.
PF Sam Schultz (HIT 16U)
Shultz is one of the top power forward’s in the 2020 class. The Oswego East big man runs the floor well and can handle the ball facing up. Works well on the block using quick spin moves on the block and rebounds in traffic. It wasn’t a dominant game, but you can definitely see the skills that make him intriguing at the next level with his athletic pop at his size.
SF Marcus Skeete (HIT 16U)
Skeete is a big bodied 6’5” small forward that can also play some small ball four. Handles it from the mid-post in. Scored with 15 foot jumpers and hook shots. Draws contact in the paint.
PF Jack Weber (Illinois Irish 16U)
This 6’7” post from El Paso-Gridley High School is powerful around the hoop finishing after garnering deep post position. Displayed some face up ability taking his man off the dribble on the baseline.
