In this article:
The PrepHoops Summer Challenge continued with another jam packed day of action on Saturday in Deerfield. Check out the standouts from Saturday’s games!
PG Trenton Tucker (Team RWA 15U)
Tucker is the younger brother of Harlem rising senior Treye Tucker. Trenton is a smaller point guard like his sibling and has a lot of creativity to his game. Tucker proved to be a nice perimeter shooter connecting on several threes off the catch. Plays the game with flair getting in the lane for runners and was a flashy passer.
PG Nathan Shockey (Breakaway 16U)
Shockey had the game of his life against D1 Minnesota 16U helping lead his team to a come from behind win against one of the top 16U squads in the country. He was a key part of their 15-0 run to close the game. Shockey was lights out from three hitting big shot after big shot. With each one he drilled the momentum continued to swing in favor of his team. Shoots it with a ton of confidence and plays with some swagger. Solid ball handler.
SF Colin O’Rourke (Breakaway 16U)
O’Rourke has continued to see his stock rise over the last several months. Saturday at Summer Challenge might have been his signature moment helping lead his team to a victory over D1 Minnesota. The Plainfield North 6’6” forward is at his best working from mid-range where his jumper is a major threat. Plus shooter from 15 to 18 feet that can also put the ball on the deck. Skilled forward.
PG Christian Henry (Chicago Hoops 16U)
This St. Rita 2021 point guard is a compactly built point guard that can score the rock. Attacks downhill with strength and does a nice job of finishing with acrobatics at the cup. Capable three point shooter.
SG Jaeden Zackery (Kessel Heat 17U)
Zackery is a shooting guard out of Wisconsin that has a burst with the ball in transition. Plus athlete that finishes well in open floor. Also can knock down a three on occasion. High motor wing that brings it every game!
C Brian Johnson (Kessel Heat 17U)
This Glenbrook North 2019 power forward stands at 6’5” and proved to be a solid rebounder. Consistently was active on the glass playing bigger than his height and just has a nose for the basketball. Efficient on his touches around the hoop.
PG Brandon Hall (Meanstreets 15U)
Hall is a big 6’3” combo guard that is tough with his physical style of play. The Thornton guard plays with strength getting to the rim consistently where he is a quality finisher through contact.
PG Jaylen Drane (Meanstreets 14U)
Drane is the next star Simeon guard. The incoming freshman is one of the most impressive young guards in the state regardless of class. Long and rangy 6’2” guard with a tremendous feel for the game. Put that on display with his passing especially in tight spaces. Long strides allow him to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Explosive off the bounce getting to the hoop consistently.
PG Jeff Brazziel (Meanstreets 14U)
Could not have been more impressed with this 2022 point guard from Milwaukee. In only his second day with Meanstreets he took over their afternoon game. Dynamic lefty lead guard that is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands. Accelerates through tight spaces. Absolutely lived in the paint all game long! Finishes very well including a powerful dunk. Streaky shooter from three, but did connect on one. Went for 20+ points in their win.
SG Ocean Johnson (Breakaway 17U)
Johnson is an athletic wing that continues to boost his stock. The Leyden two guard likes to play above the rim in transition and getting on the offensive glass. The best part of his game on Saturday was how well he shot it from the perimeter connecting on a handful of threes. Like his potential on the defensive end.
SG Trevor Casmere (Breakaway 17U)
Casmere was also a consistent threat from beyond the arc. This Benet 6’3” two guard made several threes in the games we saw with a quick release from three. Also had a few tough layups.
SG Raimundo Menocal (Hoops4Health 17U)
This Northridge Prep 6’4” shooting guard brings size for position to the table. He had multiple strong slashes off the bounce where he finished in a variety of ways with up and unders, scoop shots, runners, etc. Strong build and can take a hit at the rim.
SF Cortez Mosley (Illinois Warhawks 17U)
Mosley was one of the most pleasant surprises of the day. We haven’t seen much of this 6’5” small forward and he was ready for a primetime breakout performance. He is a big and athletic wing that has freaky bounce! He showed that off with a transition dunk early on. Plays so hard on both ends of the floor. He is definitely at his best in the open floor and driving to the hoop. Finished well. Did hit a mid-range jumper and made several nice passes. Went for 20 points.
SF Donovan Ivory (Wisconsin Blizzard 17U)
This Wisconsin Blizzard 17U wing is a projectable point forward that has a skilled offensive game. He has smooth acceleration. Long strides allows him to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Feathery jump shooter from the perimeter. Like his passing ability.
SF Jason Bergstrom (Wolverines 16U)
Bergstrom is a 6’4” small forward from Niles Notre Dame that has a versatile game. The lefty shot it well from deep connecting on a pair of threes also stepping in to hit some mid-range jumpers. More than just a shooter he put it on the deck a few times for some spinning layups.
