Summer Challenge: 2021 Evals Pt 1
We finished the July live period with coverage of the first annual PrepHoops Summer Challenge in Deerfield over the weekend. Now we begin to dive into our evaluations of the players at the event. Here is the 2021 Prospects Part 1!
PG Kenton Wright (Meanstreets 15U)
Wright made several clutch plays throughout Meanstreets close game against Breakaway. This point guard is known for his speed, short area quickness, and pull up game. All three were on display. He pushed the tempo offensively getting the ball up the floor in a hurry. As a scorer it was all about his jumper connecting regularly from both mid-range and three.
PG Brandon Hall (Meanstreets 15U)
Hall is a big 6’3” combo guard that is tough with his physical style of play. The Thornton guard plays with strength getting to the rim consistently where he is a quality finisher through contact.
PF Grant Newell (Meanstreets 15U)
Newell definitely has proven a lot to PHI throughout the last two weeks of the July live period. He has size at 6’6” with long arms. Should grow several more inches over the next couple years. Skill level is very intriguing finishing around the hoop with both hands and had his jumper working at about as good of a clip as we have seen in his career. Connected from mid-range over and over. Also stretched it to three. Runs the floor and defensively has potential.
SG Blake Peters (Meanstreets 15U)
Peters is one of the best shooters in the state of Illinois. The Evanston 6’0” wing can flat out shoot the rock from beyond the arc. He moves well to get open, sets up his shot, and has a lighting quick release. Does some gritty stuff rebounding and taking charges.
PG Nathanael Hoskins (Meanstreets 15U)
Hoskins is a crafty point guard from Danville that is never in a rush. Just knows how to play the game. When in the paint he scores with runners and floaters.
SG Connor Davis (HIT 15U)
Davis is a 6’3” shooting guard from Neuqua Valley High School. The rising sophomore likes to use shot fakes and skilled moves to get where he needs on the floor. Quality mid-range shooter that stretched it to three on one occasion. Rebounded well from his guard position.
PG Max Rivera (HIT 15U)
Rivera is a 5’10” point guard that is more of a shooting lead guard that can connect from three. Can play a little bit both on and off the ball.
SF Odin Lium (HIT 15U)
Lium is an intriguing prospect that’s best basketball is ahead of him. Has size at 6’4” with super long arms and a really thin build. Hit a three, but it wasn’t falling as consistently as it had earlier in the month. Developmental prospect that we will look forward to seeing how he progresses on a loaded Oswego East squad.
PF Calvin Hartley (HIT 15U)
Hartley is a big boy at 6’7” with a huge frame. Flashes some face up skill, but mostly right now is just a big body inside.
SG Justin Starks (HIT 15U)
This slashing power wing from Waubonsie Valley scored on some takes off the dribble and mixed in one three in the game that we saw.
PF Scotty Ebube (Kessel Heat 15U & 16U)
Ebube was a grown man playing up in Kessel’s 16U game. The 2021 power forward from Mundelein is trending as one of the top posts in the class in Illinois. He is a beast rebounder that has timing for where they are coming off the rim and man does this kid go after them! Super aggressive mauling opponents on the offensive glass for put backs. Seals well in the high/low game. Defensive presence with his raw strength and shot blocking inside. Went for 22 points.
SF Aaron Pattis (Kessel Heat 15U)
This Buffalo Grove 6’3” 2021 prospect has length and projectability. He will definitely need to add strength going forward.
SF Cody Brame (Kessel Heat 15U)
Brame is a 6’2” wing that rebounded pretty well, but struggled with fouls. Outstanding defensive rebounder from his guard spot.
