Summer Challenge: 2020 Evals
We finished the July live period with coverage of the first annual PrepHoops Summer Challenge in Deerfield over the weekend. Now we begin to dive into our evaluations of the players at the event. Here is the 2020 Prospect Evaluations!
F Gabe Mason (Diversecity 16U)
Mason is a 6’4” wing with long arms and a rangy build who hails from Metamora. This kid can flat out shoot the rock! He was on fire in their game on Friday night connecting on an array of threes along with a couple skilled drives. Definitely will need to add strength moving forward, but wow can this kid shoot it! Finished with 28 points.
SG Jacob Schoffstall (Kessel Heat 16U)
This Fremd 2020 shooting guard looked like he was going to score every point to open their game. The lefty wing can shoot it off the catch specializing in knocking them down from the corners. Couple explosive takes off the bounce especially on the baseline. Moves well laterally on defense.
SG Ryan Connolly (Kessel Heat 16U)
Connoly is the most naturally gifted prospect on Kessel Heat’s 16U squad. The 6’3” Grayslake North 2020 wing has raw strength and smooth athleticism. Things come easy for him. Scoring potential although he doesn’t always produce at the highest rate.
SG Will Tucker (Kessel Heat 16U)
Tucker is a wiry shooting guard from Lake Zurich High School that has a slight hitch in his shot, but the rising junior consistently knocked them down throughout the event from beyond the arc. Solid ball handler in traffic.
SF Michael Nale (Kessel Heat 16U)
Nale is a Fremd 6’4” wing that has size for position and some scoring upside. Connected on a turnaround fade away along with an and-1.
PG Nathan Shockey (Breakaway 16U)
Shockey had the game of his life against D1 Minnesota 16U helping lead his team to a come from behind win against one of the top 16U squads in the country. He was a key part of their 15-0 run to close the game. Shockey was lights out from three hitting big shot after big shot. With each one he drilled the momentum continued to swing in favor of his team. Shoots it with a ton of confidence and plays with some swagger. Solid ball handler.
SF Colin O’Rourke (Breakaway 16U)
O’Rourke has continued to see his stock rise over the last several months. Saturday at Summer Challenge might have been his signature moment helping lead his team to a victory over D1 Minnesota. The Plainfield North 6’6” forward is at his best working from mid-range where his jumper is a major threat. Plus shooter from 15 to 18 feet that can also put the ball on the deck. Skilled forward.
PF Connor McCance (Breakaway 16U)
McCance came up huge in Breakaway’s victory over D1 Minnesota. The Oswego 6’8” center was extremely active on the glass playing with toughness around the hoop. The thick post also has some decent athleticism and skill around the basket.
PF McCabe Quast (Breakaway 16U)
Quast was another big presence in their win over D1 Minnesota. He is a scrappy four man that had an all-out motor on the glass fighting against a pair of nationally ranked top 50 prospects. Couple quick moves on the interior.
SF Jason Bergstrom (Wolverines 16U)
Bergstram is a 6’4” small forward from Niles Notre Dame that has a versatile game. The lefty shot it well from deep connecting on a pair of threes also stepping in to hit some mid-range jumpers. More than just a shooter he put it on the deck a few times for some spinning layups.
SF Robert Holmes (Wolverines 16U)
Holmes has popped earlier in the month on our radar at a camp. This was our first chance to see him with the Wolverines where he presents plus size and athleticism. Solid shooter that also attacks with long strides. Quick to the glass. Could be a sleeper that emerges as a junior.
SG Dylan Keenan (Wolverines 16U)
Keenan is a two guard from Barrington that scored off the dribble with floaters, layups, and scoop shots.
G Tyler Kipley (Wolverines 16U)
Kipley is a guard that connected on a triple and got loose in the open floor for a layup. Attends Buffalo Grove High School.
